Had my first bath of the year!!

I kid you not, I wash every day but I struggle with baths especially in the winter. Even now at this time of year. The worst thing I find about them is the drying and feeling damp afterwards which I'm feeling now with central heating and electric fire on!

Anyone else hate baths like I do?

Hi there Kirkby, I thought Christmas had gone lol, only joking, actually I love. Baths but can't get up and down in one, I live with my daughter and the bathroom is up stairs, and then I couldn't climb the stairs too painful, so there was I for five weeks topping and tailing with wet wipes and trying to wash occasionally in avery small basin in the downstairs loo, then my son in law under daughters instructions built me a downstairs shower, I gave them the money because things are tight for them. But it was worth every penny, no one else uses it but me, it's lovely, when I had the first shower after five weeks any one would have thought I was in there with a man lol, have not got a shower would be better for you and easier, .....sending you. Gentle hug....Dee x

Haha, thanks Dee. Actually I have a shower too but I use that even less! That is upstairs but I only use it on a really hot summer's day. It's the same problem with the drying and feeling cold. I do prefer immersing myself in a bath but as I say it's all the dampness and coldness afterwards that makes it so much hassle!

Hi Kirby,

I haven't had a bath for years!!!!!!! HaHa!!

I have showers. We have just had our bathroom re- done as I struggle so much in a normal size cubicle!! I now have this lovely wide wet room area, with a chair and two height rain shower, all my bits and bobs like shower gel, shampoo etc are all at easy sitting reach for me and grab rails to help me up.I also have a chair outside the shower area that my hubby puts under the warm air heater, so i just sit under there until I am ready to move and have very neatly dried off!

I find having a shower and washing my hair absolutely exhausting! I fret about it the evening before, as I know it will reck me for the day. I've tried it the other way round and doing it in the evening, but the exhaustion just brings on more pain

, not sleep..... Typical!!

So you are by no means alone.......it's hard to get used to, when I used to soak for hours and blow dry my hair!

Prehaps a shower would be better for you?

Take care and hope you are having a better evening. X

Hi Lizz - alas, I mentioned to Cookie in my reply to her, I have a shower, but it's the same problem of dampness and feeling cold and not properly dry afterwards. But I'm really glad that you've found the shower to be a solution :-) Actually, you've just reminded me that what would really help is to have some sort of wall heater so I can dry myself like that. But I'm glad it's not just me. Washing my hair, ugh, that is just the same. I really hate it, it is an all day job and I can never go out afterwards!

Take care

Hi Kirby

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I always have a shower every day, as I cannot get in and out of a bath. My wife and I have a walk in shower with a chair and rails, it okay but as you say, it is the drying of yourself that is so difficult, my wife finds it difficult because of her MS as well.

One of the things that I find the most difficult is washing my hair! I find it easier to wash my wife's hair when she is sitting down than I do my own since I have to raise my arms above my head, this gives me a lot of pain. I really hope that you don't have any problems washing your hair?

I always used to love a good bath though when I could manage!

All my hopes and dreams for you

Hi Ken

Alas I do have a shower but they are just as bad because I still have the problems of dampness and not feeling dry for ages afterwards. I also prefer the feeling of immersing in the bath (on the rare occasions I have them, lol). My brother also has MS and he has a chair in the bath but I don't think he has the same feelings of dampness afterwards, funnily enough. But washing my hair, ugh!! Funny, because Lizz mentioned that too in her reply and that is the other thing I hate doing and I have so much of it but it keeps me well-insulated, lol. It is an all day job and takes forever to dry and again that same feeling of my head and neck not feeling dry so my hair only gets washed every two or three weeks. I'm sorry about the pain you get washing your hair and I don't suppose your wife can help you wash yours. It might be worth getting a home hairdresser in, maybe to help you with yours, Ken.

Take care

Morning Kirby,

I used to love baths - lying in bubbles and dreaming wonderful and so relaxing now well no chance .

I cannot get in it and if I did they would have to pull me out :(

So like you i wash every day and I am lucky I have a shower downstairs. It is the most amazing feeling to stand under a water fall. I make it play on my back as hot as I can -sheer bliss. To help wash I have a long white bit of flannel sewn with rings at the ends so it will go around my body a good scrubber dub dubber you might say.

So yes I hate baths now like you we should hold a vote to bath or shower! :)

Gentle hugs to you Kirby have a good day!

Hi Gins

Your scrubber dub dubber gave me a chuckle :-)

Yes, others have mentioned showers - I do have a shower but alas although I can walk in it's the same problem with dampness and never feeling dry so it has to be a really hot summer's day and then I will treat myself to a cool shower! I think what I need is a blow heater to dry me :-)

Big hugs

Hi,

Yes I also don't have baths. Everyone says "but you'll feel so much better if you lay there and soak in the hot water". That's as maybe, but the getting out of the bath causes so much pain and discomfort, I can't see the point - it undoes all the good. I get cold if it's not deep too. So on the rare occasions I actually have the energy to wash, I have a shower. I bought a shower stool and that has made it so much better. Standing was a nightmare. Washing my hair is the worst, as ken said, due to having to raise my arms above my head. At least now I can sit and enjoy the hot water :)

Hi Pip

So glad that you now have a good solution to washing :-)

I do have a shower and can walk into it but I have the same problems after getting wet all over and then feeling damp and not properly dry so I avoid the shower too. But yes, I hate washing my hair. I do it in the sink but that hurts my back and then again it takes forever to dry and my head and neck feel damp all the time and so it only gets done every two or three weeks and I can never go out after washing my hair unless a really hot summer's day! I have lots of hair too which keeps me well-insulated so am reluctant to get it cut although I do have it thinned about once a year but that's another uphill struggle going to the hairdresser's! I found a new hairdresser last year after a lot of searching and the day I had my appointment he had floods in the salon and thought his business was finished! He was so glad to do my hair with the repairs and mopping up going on around him because it represented carrying on as normal!.

Take care

the magic solution to getting everywhere dry is... (drum roll)

a hairdrier! - hot air gets in all the areas you can't reach and is so soothing I sometimes use it to ease pains. good luck! :)

Yes, that's true, but I really need a heater inside the bathroom :-)

A hair dryer stand - I'll see what Dragon's Den says. Is Idris on there?

Queen Elizabeth 1st had a bath once a year whether or not she needed it so don't complain. :P

I can't get in or out either so had to give up - showers only now. Besides the bath was made for midgets. :(

Yep, my bath is sooo small. I have a shower but don't do showers either (except in very warm weather) for the same reason as no baths. I still suffer afterwards from feeling too damp and cold :-(
