moved to Malta as I feel better here and have just gone two weeks without pain killers until today. There has been a street party outside my flat for the past three days and has been like trying to sleep in a disco.
Don't get me wrong I don't want to stop the young people enjoying themselves and as far as I could see very well behaved, not like you see on the TV but will be glad when Lent starts and the place becomes quiet again.
Oh dear JacHK, that must be upsetting that you've had to resort to the pain killers again. Hopefully, as you say when lent starts it will all calm down. I'm really interested to hear that the change of climate has made such a difference to your fibro, could I ask how long it was before you were able to start cutting back on meds. I am taking a warm holiday in September and very much hope it may make me feel a bit better, as long as it's not humid

It was within 24 hours of my arrival, that I was able to start to cut down and off painkillers completely by day 3 except for a hot water bottle at night but that does not have side effects. i came to Malta three times last year (Feb. Sept and Nov) as the transformation is so amazing. I am sat in the sun, still need a jumper but feels so good.

I want to say wow, wow and double wow, have you moved there permanently now ? This could be very interesting as I've often wondered whether a move to better climate could improve my condition. Just to sit in the sun, even in a jumper is just so good. I have been to Tuscany, but it was a bit too humid for me but I did love the few days we had dry heat

Yes I love giggles. have rented a two bed two bathroom furnished flat for 6 months and then see from there. Rent is less than £200 a month and I have paid far more than that to doctors for far less improvement. All the stuff in the flat is either old, cheap or bad taste! However great space and everything I need is within walking distance (my walking distance). Also great food available if you remember to shop before mid-day.
Wowski, expect an arrival in April then :-). Do feel free to join in with our fun posts like Pic of the Day and Comedy Corner Captions, it's giggle sometimes verging on lunacy, but laughter is one of the best medicines I know

Hi jack, I'm Rory but that wouldn't do for me as thru the fibro I have become very sensitive to light smells and noise, the noise seems to rattle right thru my body as if some one is punching me, hope tey quiten down soon, I bet the weather is lovly there, ..gentle hugs ...Dee x

Thanks for your support. The weather is lovely and a great way to get some more vitamin D. Pace of life is different as well, the cafes here close for lunch. Every thing stops between 12 noon and 4 pm

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is the street party for? Is it a religious or cultural celebration?

it is a carnival, two types formal and non-formal. The formal one is really sweet kids dancing in the village square.
The informal one the village square is turned into a nightclub / disco. Music dancing fast food and fancy dress.
On Saturday night hundreds of people turned up from all over the islands and overseas. A group came from Notthing Hill. My flat is above a coffee shop that changes for the carnival.
Not religious but every year it finishes before Ash Wednesday so only one more night to go. It rained last night but that just meant more noise from the coffee shop.
Normally this village is very sleepy .

I bet you can't wait for that part to finish. I think I am getting old, as I can't be done with all the noise.

Welcome to our site I think you are a brave man to take yourself to Malta for six months - of course I am seriously jealous of the sunshine and warmth.
Apart from the carnival it sounds amazing so your flat is kitsch what more could you want .
I wish you a quieter week and do come on and join us whenever you feel the need. we get pretty loud but you can always turn us off.

beginning to love the bad taste, but there are weird things, I have three knives and a frying pan big enough to cook for 20 people.
family are coming out when they can and I am realising that talking to my husband on Skype is a bit like when we first dated and lived 100 miles apart we are having long conversations really talking communicating which you don't always do after 30 years together.
Don't want to sound like victor Meldrew regarding carnival nice to see young people enjoying them selves without the drunkenness you sometimes see on the TV.

The parties are over and so is the good weather. so a day of TV and books. Music was different last night sounded like a brass band.
