Time to kick start my life

Various matters have made my life hell over the past 3 to 4 years. Here I am the other side and ready to take on my FM now. Just joined this group, first one ever and hope to get some advice. I am going very slowly, one step at a time. First I want to get the best pain relief. I have used codeine/paracetemol but because of IBS I am going to ask for codeine only next week when I speak to my Doctor. Any thoughts that might help me ?

Hi and welcome. I have recently been diagnosed and this website and the people on it have been so helpful. X

Hmm, Paracetamol isn't noted for IBS but codeine has a reputation for the opposite. Every time I'm warned about that I say "I wish" Anti depressants seem quite a common prescription for fibro. I'm on 40mg Amitriptyline.

We tend to avoid opiates aw fibromites have problems with our opiate receptors.

Do have a look at the website and NHS choices.

fibroaction.org/Pages/About...

This will give you the information page. There are download and print information sheets.

I hope your GP is "fibro aware" not all are. You don't give your diagnosis story which can give a clue how treatment may progress.

It's great that you're in "terrier mode" Grab by the throat and take charge.

This is a great site with some lovely people who are kind, understanding knowledgeable and funny.

Feel free to come on and ask questions, chat or just have a laugh - endorphins are great.

Or just have a moan. There's usually someone else awake and no one will tell you to be quiet if you want to have a cry or a rant. There's a war against the evil cats going on at the moment. You might or might not care to join in. Either way, welcome. :)

Welcome to the forum whoamInow

I was wondering if you had spoken to your GP about your pain relief as I don't think cutting out the paracetamol would be the answer as codeine is noted to be a causal factor behind constipation. Speaking from personal experience I developed a rectocele and had rectal surgery to fix it as a result :(

There are an array of medications used to treat Fibromyalgia and it can take a while to find the right combination that works for you. Keeping your GP up to date on your symptoms, I find, is a good way to help manage the Fibro :)

The following link is to FAQ's concerning medications and treatments if you find your current medications aren't working and I thought you may find this useful:

Have you checked out our Mother site fibroaction.org where there is a wealth of information regarding Fibromyalgia, doctors, medicines, alternative medicines, benefits and up to date research plus more.

You'll also find on the right of the screen categories where you can browse through peoples past posts.

The creative corner and comedy corner are quite popular as having a good laugh is good medicine. There is also a newly added Pet's Corner for us to post our beloved animals that are there for comfort and support.

The following link is to FAQ's regarding being newly diagnosed which you also may find useful:

Please Note:

I am not a medical professional so anything I advise should not be taken over anything your medical health providers say to you :)

You have come to the right place for information, friendly advise and fun if you feel up to it, we all like to blow off steam whether its with a moan or a giggle so please don't be afraid to join in :)

Don't be afraid to ask any questions and looking forward to seeing you around :)

Hi,

a warm welcome to you. You have found a wonderfully friendly and supportive forum :-) . One step at a time is the best way to get to terms with FMS. Pain relief is different for each one of us. I can't take any paracetemol/codeine stuff myself but do well on Tramadol with the occasional Melixcam for breakthrough pain. I hope you find what suits you best.

Hugs

Jillyxx

Thanks to you all and hope I am typing in the right place. Was diagnosed about 6 or 7 years ago. By some fluke I watched Dr Chris Steele on This Morning programme. Amitriptyline was prescribed and worked great at first. After a constant two year old headache, it cleared. Took me a couple of days to realize why I felt so good :) Then menopause and 2 adolescent teenage boys all happened same time. I am completely drug free since November last year want to be selfish and concentrate on me only this year.

Hi whoamlnow

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum, and I sincerely hope that you find it as useful as I do?

When it comes to pain management I always say to members that we are all unique individuals and, with this in mind, we all react differently to both our illness and our medications. So what works for one may not work for somebody else. I think medications are one of those issues where we really need to discuss it with our GP's.

I really want to wish you luck and please keep us up to date with how you are getting along.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Hi whoamlnow, welcome to our loving, caring, laughter, listening fibro club, you couldn't have picked a better site, we have some wonderful fibro friends on here all willing to listen and share their own experience of fibro,...I've tried many cocktails of meds, the best that work for me , is gabapentine for the nerve endings, tramadol, sertraline and have co codamol as a back up, I've had morphine patches but was allergic to the morphin, although that cocktail works for me doesn't mean it will work for anyone else, mind you they haven't yet come up with a pill that takes the fibro pain away completely, they just help you cope, I feel you should go back to your GP and ask for some thing different than paracetamol that will help with the pain, gabapentin or pregbalin are usually the first they use, they are both from the same family, hope you get some joy from your GP, do let us know how you get on....look forward to reading your posts.....gentle hugs....Dee xx

Thanks so much Dee. I am back at the beginning because I was so low I really did not want to get better. 2 days of reading posts in here makes so much more sense to me than anything previously.
