Hi pugwash80

I read your post with great pain for what you are going through. It really can't be easy to live in this sort of situation. Although I do not have this sort of problem I have watched TV programmes about anti-social behaviour like this and the effect that it has on good, decent people like yourself. I sincerely hope that you can find some resolution to this issue and get some peace.

All my hopes and dreams for you

hi pugwash80.

I ahd this myself from where i lived when I first moved to where I live now.i rented a house until found somewhere to buy and the people next door were druggies and would have music playing at all hours, constant arguments and then kicking and slamming of doors.their kids were as bad stealing and abusive and making all kinds of threats.on teh other side the neighbour was the complete opposite.i didn't see her for 6 months .In the end I had police involved.part of the trouble is the houses have double thickness walls on the outside but those in the party wall are paper thin.i think it should be made law that party walls are soundproofed in all houses.i can fully sympathise with you, complaining to the police or council can only make matters worse.i hope you can get this sorted and find some peace.

Thank you for your support. It's upstairs neighbors. We have two roofs sound proofed. Living in council properly as I'm unable for work at the moment. We have the anti social team out at least once a week. We have an on going case but it's the length of time it taking. X

could you move into a property above them and make as much noise!!my dog would suit you he barks 24/7.dreading it when new neighbours move in next door cos the husband works nights and they have 3 young children.I didnt stop him before unless outside cos the previous person ahd 3 dogs who barked continuously and howled when they were left alone.,

I have two dogs but unfortunately it's the kids that's scared of them. I would never do anything to the kids. They have a hard time as it is all five of them. I've never complained about 'family' noise just decks and mcing. Good luck with your New neighbors. You could always buy him ear defenders as a house warming gift lol xxx

It's hard to know what else to suggest :( have environmental health been round with their noise measuring equipment or is it just the council that are looking at the anti-social aspect of the tenancy? If you haven't already, it's worth reporting the noise nuisance, as if they can measure the sound disturbance from the decks/music, then there is the noise abatement route to go down too where environmental health can confiscate their sound system etc. sorry if I've misunderstood, but is this the route you've gone down already? Xx

are you able to record when its at its loudest.?and keep a diary.tahts what they normally recommend

pugwash80 in reply to anbuma

I call the noise team out every time. We are now on first name terms and know about there families. They want to get them too as its a big problem as they have 5 kids and they are drunk every time they go up so social work involved. They said just to keep calling x

in reply to pugwash80

That's terrible :( I really hope it resolves soon :)

I think it is a case of persist or take Anbuma's advice about trying to get them to help to re-locate you. A hassle you could do without I agree because of the extra stress it would cause but in the long run maybe beneficial if it continues much longer :(

Take care hunny xx

Oh yes, now I sound like David Tennant..sorry I wandered off I suffer from Allodynia (skin sensativity) sensativity to noise, light, and the one i hate most smell. I keep my dark glasses ready for when lights start to irritate, ear plugs for noise, you can get some nice soft ones from the chemists. but there is not much I can do about smell unless I push ear plugs up my nose witch is not advisable,It is awfull when you can smell toilet smells in another room with both doors shut and then get a full blast of air freshen er,Totally avoid shops that deal in ..smellies and walk down washing powder isles holding my breath as much as poss, It`s horrible. I am wondering again, hope ear plugs help Hopefully something will soon be sorted and so you will only need them temperarerly Sue

in reply to

I have absolute sympathy with you over the smell thing!! I call it my dog nose as I'm sure I have a more sensitive snout than my spaniel cross. I too need earplugs and dark glasses, but the smells are unavoidable, I find the worst thing is people's breath. I can smell everything they have eaten on their breath from across a room, not just garlic, and morning breath/plaque in the mouths of train commuters if I was in the same carriage would start off a never ending spell of heaving until I could get to fresh air. It's a terrible affliction :(.

I'm really sorry about your neighbours pugwash80, and the length of time it's taking for anything to be done about it. Sadly, the time scale for anti-social behaviour investigations is notoriously protracted, which is unacceptable. Earplugs are the only thing that help me, you can bulk buy off the internet really cheaply, I would recommend E-A-R Classic Soft (I got mine from Aearo Ltd). If you change to a new pair about every 3 days then you will benefit from the best sound blocking before they start to harden and change shape. You need to make sure they are inserted well but they really do block out a lot, I hope if you decide to give them a go they work for you too. I think you can pay about £3 for 2 pairs at a chemist, online it's about £20 for a big box of hundreds of the things xxx

Morning Sue :) sorry but you've made me chuckle again :)

Me too, haven't taken to putting ear plugs up my nose yet though Sue :D

What an image I now have in my head ;) I can't stand it either drives me insane especially the toilet thing yeurgh!

Do you find that sometimes it feels like your eating the smell?

(not the toilet....... oH crikey not the toilet!! :o )

I avoid shops and perfume counters on purpose too and my doctor gives me inhalers to help with my breathing. Air fresheners are lethal especially those tree shaped ones that hang in cars............... I've turned blue in a taxi once because of that.......... before finding out what it was. Very scary :o

I can not stand the smell of ciggaret smoke it makes me heave. I now wonder how I could possibly have enjoyed smoking myself..It did come in very useful at work once.I cleaned the met lab in a large factory. I went in one night and kept getting a slight whiff of gas, it was worse near the gas jets...The manager was still in so I told him, he couldn`t smell anything so he went home. When I went back later I could still smell it and so I went and found the MD he couldn`t smell anything but said he was not taking chances .They got a gas man in the next day and guess what gas leak. Turning the gas off ruined a load of samples but at least the building was still standing

in reply to

Crikey ! i do understand that :)

my nose smells all kinds that no one else can smell.

I'm actually only just coming to terms with the smell thing because I thought it was normal and everyone was like that :o I knew the noise and temperature thing weren't normal though! Goes back to that 'being able to smell sugar in tea or even milk before the cup is anywhere near me' that we talked about before :) Its nice to talk to someone who understands it xx

I do not think you have noise sensitivity I think you have noisy inconsiderate neighbours. Part of the anguish that others noise inflicts is the fact that you can not control it. I sympathise with you. You live on edge of the next asalt on the senses.

I have no idea if you would have a case but how about going to the doctors and tell them of the distress. it really is too much to bear with all your other problems. You may have a case for getting help finding somewhere else to live. Much more difficult if you have a mortgage but worth a try.

I think it would cause the healthiest girl to drink or worse.

Good luck.

And suss out workmens ear defenders.

I live next door to a pub and am dreading the better weather when they will be out the front high jinksing until 3am. Nice for them but devastating for me as I have to get up early.

When we moved here there were old fashioned opening hours with respite in Sundays.

Throwing up a prayer for all of us living with this problem

May we find some respite.

Ned

I feel for you it must be terrible. Good luck x

Hi there Pugwash :)

It's impossible for me to state whether you have noise sensitivity or not but I do feel for you having such a dreadful time with your neighbours :( It makes life so much more difficult to cope with when you're tired and stressed.

When my OH and our friends are in the kitchen, (down a flight of stairs from my room) they all talk so loudly that it feels like someone is drilling my ear drums then my eyes start to be painful, my head then the dizziness and feeling sick. That's how noise affects

me and it prevents me from going to loud crowded places whether its a shop, bar or even sometimes a library because the whirring of computers bores through the centre of my head :o Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

............... but remember!! we're all different hunny.

Have you spoke to your GP about sensitivities?

I hope that this problem sorts soon so that you can start the R&R you desperately need :)

Sending relaxing calming fluffies for you

Zeb is quite right it was wrong of me to say that you don't have noise sensitivity I just felt so much I wanted to go around to your said neighbours and display unseemly behaviour on you part, adding to the din of course.

Let us know how you get on at GP.

Hang in there.

I can understand your pain. Our previous neighbours were like that. We vot police etc involved but didn't do any good. Then one night there was loads of banging and they disapeared overnight leaving the house in a right mess. I even struggle with the noise my own 2 little ones make when they are playing and myself praticing my ukulele so I have earplugs. Hope you get sorted soon. Xxxx

Thank you. The only reason we have a case a the anti social team call it is because they were threatening towards them or we wouldn't even have that. X

Hi, I too have terrible neighbours, but at the back of me. Their garden backs on to our garden. The father is a drunk and they have two small children who they constantly verbally abuse. I am dreading the summer coming as they spend a lot of time in the garden so I have to keep all my windows closed and I have a 7 year old son who wants to go outside and I have to make excuses to keep him in which is terrible. I even avoid inviting his friends around in case we hear them. In fact although my family know and have heard them so many times I don't even invite them round anymore. We were forever in our garden which is sad.

I own my house but these people rent the accommodation they are in. The woman has got a mouth like a foghorn - I swear I have never heard anything like her in my life! The language they use is really, really bad and these people play really loud music, having said that only in the summer. They have their windows open all year round and I have animals to tend to in the back garden and whenever I go out there you can guarantee I will hear her. Her voice drives me mad! Sometimes I am led in bed, at the front of the house, and I have my bathroom window open slightly, which is at the back of the house and I can still hear her shouting and screaming at the children!

The road I live in was relatively peaceful before these horrible people came 3 years ago. I am also at my wits end at times due to the impact she has on my life and I have never even spoken to the woman!

Good luck, I can sympathise with you :)

Report them no one deserves to put up with that hun. I live in council housing and I always have done (aka I'm poor) but there's no excuse for that sort of bbehavior x

I do feel for you. I had several noisy families live next door some years back, one after the other. We were driven mad by the noise. partly it was soundproofing but mostly it was stressed parents whose idea of brining up kids was to let them run riot and then bawl at them, or not look after dogs and let them crap all over the place or keep them in or all sorts of things. In the end we managed to get some help from a solicitor (there used to be legal aid) and that helped so much because he believed us and didn't make out like environmental health do that it was our problem for being hypersensitive. The worse of it is is that even when it's quiet you can't relax. By the end of several years of a succession of such families I felt driven out of my own house and had to stay at my mum's and dreaded coming back home. It was hell. I did buy a white noise machine which helps with airborne sound but not impact noise (thumping feet, crashing about etc). I live somewhere else now :-)
