Hello Just wondered if any one has heart problems because of fibro I just wondered if people knew that this can happen.

I don't consider myself as bad as some of you guys

I am able to control the pain, mostly, still have flares

Every few months, but it could be worse just have to

Get on as best as you are able

I now have problems with my heart, not to serious but

It's still scary my GP tells me it's because of the fibro

Which makes some sense.

Please dont look at my spelling I am having a no brain

Day.

Interesting to see how many of you know that this thing

We have effects us like this and how many of you have

Heart problems and did not know it could be because

Of fibro

Love if xx

Hi Vivien,

I have heart palpitations from time to time. Once it was so bad it actually made my body shake. I mentioned it to my then GP who said it can have many different causes and to tell them if it happened again. She didn't mention Fibro as being a possible cause though. You have me wondering now.

Hugs

Hello Vivien60,

I personally haven't got any heart problems apart from I am due to be tested for PoTS, which causing fainting and is a form of Dysautonomia.

Autonomic Dysfunction (sometimes called Dysautonomia) of some kind is common with Fibro: this simply means that the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) isn't working properly.1 The ANS keeps various factors in your body at normal levels, including heart rate, blood pressure, perspiration and respiration. Autonomic Dysfunction with Fibro can include not being able to properly regulate your temperature - people with Fibro are often either too hot or too cold - and fainting (Lindsey Middlemiss, Founder of FibroAction & Trustee 2009)

Passage taken from FibroAction website, link below;

fibroaction.org/Pages/What-...

For more information about Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS) please see link below;

I have personally (no FibroAction hat on) read some research papers which are studies regarding Fibromyalgia & the heart, please see below;

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/274...

I believe research continues and this might be what your GP was referring to as he may have read further studies.

I hope this is of interest

Best Wishes

Thank you jessam I'm not sure but looking on google it looks like it can go with fibro, I'm only

At the beginning of mine so I don't know what

The treatment will be.

I suppose that fibro does give pain in muscle and

The heart is a muscle so it seems right.

Thank you viv

Hi Vivien

From time to time I have this crippling pain in my chest, like a vice and can't breathe because of the pain for a few minutes. I don't think it's costocondritis (not sure of spelling) as people who have this say that lasts for weeks whereas this only lasts for minutes, albeit very frightening minutes.

I wish I knew what it was. I have mentioned them to various GPs but this was before I was diagnosed with fibro. One GP years ago (before my diagnosis) thought it was a spasm of the oesaphagus but I'm not so sure.

Hello Kirby,

My attacks of Costochrondritis only last for a few minutes with a dull ache afterwards. It feels like someone is sat on my rib cage, my breathing goes shallow and I struggle to breathe due to the pain and tightness.

Obviously, I cannot say what you are experiencing is Costochrondritis however these are my symptoms. If they relate at all maybe you should see the GP again to discuss these symptoms and maybe have a few checks like ECG's etc, as this might put your mind at rest (unless you've already had these)

I hope you get a diagnosis soon

Best Wishes

Emma :)

Many thanks, Emma. I'd not heard of anyone else getting these for a few minutes as other people who've mentioned it always seem to talk about weeks or months even so it's reassuring to know that it's not just me. What you're describing is very similar. I get an acute vice-like pain and can't move or breathe because of the pain and it feels therefore as if I'm having a heart attack although as I've ridden the pain previously that makes me more assured when it happens again if you get my drift. I've not had an ECG for a while but you're right that I should discuss it with the GP again when I next see her.

Many thanks again :-)

No problems at all :)

in reply to Mdaisy

I agree Emma and Kirby as this is similar to what I experience but because there's a history of Angina in the family they looked for that and not anything else. it sometimes feels like a huge animal is sat on my chest but again wavers on and off for me.

ECG's usually spot heart issues very well and I'm glad I get mine at my GP surgery too :) I have inhalers for when I get really bad.

You Know I always feel like a hypochondriac but sometimes I have to say Hi Doc can I please be tested for.......??? as I don't think its............... :o He's usually very good after we discuss symptoms and reasonings.

I have read about PoTs recently Emma as my neurologist said I had auntonomc dysfunction (ANS) of some kind but this part of my medical health hasn't been pursued further. I cannot regulate temperature properly at all and I'm interested to know how you get on and send positive thoughts your way :)

Wishing you both well and sending you sunshine fluffies

Thank You Sian for thinking about me and the possible PoTS. I had a better spell, then today had a few symptoms. I'll get there ! :) I hope to hear about the referral soon :)
