just sent this:-

you can see the time of this email, my dinner call is late.

it is fortunate I am not in a heap on the floor!

no phone call either.

I won't write the phrase I'd like to use - disgusted will have to suffice.

I sent the message to the area manager who said she'd fully investigate.

I finally rang the out of hours office at 5pm and was told "I've checked and can assure you that your 8.30 call will be on time. we're sorry about the missed call." !!!!

8.30 carer was told to arrive prompt at 8.40! which she did, but was not told why.

I'd had my meal 6ish as I was hungry, just a small microwave one.

the person a the office never asked if I was ok, or needed anything.

their days are numbered!

I worked for a care agency for many years as a senior care manager and I was most concerned if we received a missed call phone call! Luckily, it was usually due to traffic, or the carer being late leaving her previous call. The problem these days is that there are so many people in need of domiciliary care and not enough care staff!! And, in my own case, I couldn't just make the client a cup of tea and rush off, I might be the only person they've seen all day!! We used to be asked to do 15 min calls, which is outrageous!! Even half an hour isn't enough sometimes. I hope you find a better service, should you decide to change! XX

Unfortunately for many sufferers of many things the health system is creaking under the strain. Carers and deliverers are poorly paid and poorly treated so the firm is understaffed (cos people keep leaving) and there are too many managers who think the way to get things done is to bully staff (so people keep leaving despite really needing the money). I know someone who works for what used to be meals on wheels and someone else who receives the service. Apart from traffic and breakdowns they're under too much pressure to perform efficiently - and have to work Xmas day etc. But you realise that when you take the job. There just aren't the resources. Other services are under resourced, like physio, pain clinic etc. I feel for you Sandra, 4 hrs or so just isn't good enough - and I have a feeling there are other problems like overcooking (some of the cooking process happens in the van!) I think the time limits are also for food hygiene and safety reasons. The firm I'm thinking of pay staff till 2.30pm - anything over is in their own time so I doubt it was deliberate. Sue, is that fair comment?

I didn't used to be keen on support groups but this one is the tops and an excellent resource.

I certainly agree. One of my friends works for the local council's homecare and some of her calls are just ridiculous. Two calls can often be 18 miles apart, and yet she's given little or no time to travel between them!! She's expected to drive down dark country lanes late at night, alone, and often finds when she gets there she's not needed!! Unbelievable!!

Oh this site has been a never ending source of help, advice and support. I can honestly say I have never known people who are non judgemental, respectful, helpful, funny and lift my heart and soul!! XXX

I was informed she said that as my key was in the lock, her key wouldn't work, so she knocked, then left!

a] no key in lock

b] she didn't knock -

neither did she call it in so I could let her in.

I often cannot turn in bed, have days when I cannot get out of bed, to the loo, or safely get down stairs (inc. on & off stairlift) or get something to eat or drink.

what if I had been taken ill? fallen? or worse?

suddenly, I no longer feel safe, or independent.

O. . .k. . . I'm unaware of the exact circumstances, but IF there was a key in the door, I might have turned the one that was already there! Sounds like a stream of excuses but I stand by what I said about pressure

Hi Sandra. I am so sorry to hear of your plight. I think this is really disgusting and I sincerely hope that you can get it sorted and that it does not happen again.

Please take care
