was wondering if anyone else's symptoms are worse before a period, i have never had any problems with my periods but now i suffer with cramps and really bad pmt and my fibro seems to be worse before mine starts and also my periods are really heavy and last much longer .

Bad period pain is one of the lovely symptoms of fibro. I have really bad cramps and have done so nearly all my life, I have come off the pill recently as well and have noticed my periods are getting heavier. Don't forget that as you get older and nearer the menopause your periods change and heavier ones are very common. It wouldn't hurt to get it checked out at the GP's though to make sure you don't have fibroids. There are treatments for both painful and heavy periods on offer, either drug treatments or surgical or hormonal options so don't think you have to suffer in silence.

i have the same problem too and like yourself did not suffer before i was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. my pain clinic lady who also is a physiotherapist says thats normal for women over 40 years of age and those who have FB cos your ligaments are softer at that time of the month, therefore feel more pain. then depending on age also you might be experiencing the menopause too . hope this helps and take care . i take paracetomol to help and hot water bottle on pelvic area helps too

Hi yeah I've suffered with really painful heavy periods and find just before and during them I'm so sore,every bit of me is painful! I was given mefanemic acid n they did help! I'm now getting really bad sweats and periods haven't arrived now for two months(thank god) but still get the soreness and symptoms of having a period! (Never happy) lol. The stuff us women have to go through! X

Hi, my fibro symptoms were debilitating the week before my period. Along with other pain meds dr has put me on a pill called cerezette, this has stopped my periods all together and although I still get fibro pain the spikes I used to experience have gone. Got to be worth a go.

I have this problem too, and am just 35. I get the most severe back spasms just before and for the first day or so, and the periods are also heavier and last longer. As if we need this on top of everything else?!

I've tried the hot water bottle and extra meds, has anyone found anything else which helps please? Thanks.

Oh you poor loves I know where you are coming from cramps and tummy pain but thankfully I have finished this completely now. So patience your time will come xxgins

yes, the stomach spasms i get make me drop to the floor, they are like contractions. this is in the few days before my period whilst my bowels are about to empty, squatting is the only way i can go at that time. it's extreme pain but short lived for me, once my motion passes and i get my breath back it's ok. i dread this happening while i'm not alone/at home because i scream like in labour, can't help it. anyone else get this?

I find my legs get super wobbly and every month I say to myself "why is my Fibro worse? I've been so careful to pace myself" and then I realise its that time of the month again! Duh!! can I blame that on brain fog? Lol x

I had a really bad time with cramps, heavy period and severe pmt, to the point I was suicidal for 3 out of 4 weeks. I had a merina coil fitted, after about 3 months period levelled out immensely, I was also prescribed duloxetine and my pmt has practically gone. I feel human again and wish I'd got this years ago.
