Sweating

My daughter is getting married on the 6th July this year, I am walking her down the aisle. I say walking, more like hobbling, but she has picked a song that will last no matter how slow I have to walk. The thing thats really troubling me is the sweats. I cant stand without sweat pouring down my face. I can kind of deal with it everywhere else, with anti perspirants, but there is nothing for my face.

I went to my doc with another list of things and happened to mention my worry. She said there is a drug that is prescribed for incontinence in woman, a side effect of this drug is that it dries you up.

I am praying these will work. Has anyone else been on these pills?

Sorry cannot help with the drug but I wanted to wish you well for the big day. I hope it is marvellous for you and your family. (Take an extra hanky with you an wipe away your tears of joy!) and if you are perspiring no one will know. xgins

I expect the drug your doctor is referring to is propantheline. It's pretty effective, and should ease your problems. It has few side-effects, but I would start taking it a few days before the wedding in case it upsets you. It can cause drowsiness and dry mouth, but you might find that a small price to pay for the relief of your sweating.

There are also a number of face-cooling sprays on the market now, mostly just mineral water based aerosols, like Evian. You keep them in the fridge, and have a spritz now and again to freshen your face. Sounds like a good plan for everyday when you don't need to take strong medication.

I hope you have a wonderful day at the wedding - forget your troubles and enjoy being Mother-of-the Bride! :)

Just know how you feel about this sweating and running down face I get it too. I dont take any medication for it as I went to see a skin specialist who told me that it is a way the body removes waste products and that to dry it up altogether can be quite dangerous. I know for the special day you dont want to be seen to be dripping what about a little fan. I have been on a few cruises and I use a fan to help it cools and dries you up, You could get yourself chilled facially in the car as you go to the church then like Moffy suggests you could spritz your face with a little light spray they are very good as well.

Hope you have a wonderful day I am sure you will your dripping wont spoil it enjoy.

I'm late in replying, but want you to know that I suffer with the same distressing problem. I HATE it so much, my face and hair get soaked, and I end up dripping over everything, so embarrasing and uncomfortable. I do nothing but moan and complain when it happens. It makes me HATE the summer. The recent heatwave we had, nearly drove me insane !! I have always thought it goes beyong being "normal" sweating.....anyway, I was recently relieved to get a diagnosis from a dermatologist (after my GP referred me) It is called CRANIOFACIAL HYPERHIDROSIS (excessive sweating) Other places people generally get it is, palms of hands, souls of feet or armpits. I am not excessive in those areas, just my head and face. I have been offered tablets, but the side effects can be quite bad. As it happens, I was also offered similar tablets for irritable bladder symptoms (Vesicare) I am hoping they will sort both problems out ?? The dry mouth side effect is severe, it even spreads down my throat, making it hard to swallow at times. I'm still waiting for it to help my problems...early days still.

I keep baby wipes to wash myself down, but it doesn't stop my hair getting soaking wet. I really feel for you x

Have a lovely day though x its brilliant you can attend and walk down that isle x

Hi there, this is a really wide shot, but I have heard that Botox can be used to help with sweating, of course you would need to check with your GP and finding a reputable person to do it if your GP allows it.

Like you, I suffer from this constantly, I have to do very little, if anything, to start it off - if I get nervous it kicks in and my hair is sopping and my face dripping, really not a good look. So you have my complete sympathy.

I do so hope you manage to find a solution and that you have a truly wonderful day on the 6th, I will be doing a little sun dance for you :D >>>> will no doubt fall base over apex >>>>

Hi Helen, thanks for your response, and although I have always know about hyperhidrosis of my underarms, to be honest I just thought my sweating elsewhere was down to side effects of meds. for years I struggled with the underarms because I certainly didn't want to be slathering them with aluminium , which was the basis of most treatments at the time. Now I use Sure maximum, and haven't looked at the ingredients because I'm just so relieved to have something that works, and I can for the first time wear t-shirts without the constant worry of sweat marks. HHmmm dry mouth, I have that already,( also a side effect of meds) but a tip for you which my doctor and dentist both advised is to chew sugar-free gum, it's not a look I like, but I have to do it sometimes. There is also a spray for dry mouths on prescription called Glandosane, but apparently it really isn't great for your teeth - hey ho a no win situation, so I stick with the gum !

Anyway, thank you so much for your reply, I will talk with my GP about next time I see him. Thanks :-)

I use Mitcham, the solid stick type, you can get a roll on in it too. It does not contain aliminium, and I find it really good. Thanks for the gum tip, but I am allergic to sweeteners, so the sugar free products are usually unsuitable for me. I have got a spray from boots, which I will try and see how it goes. Such a nightmare, having Fibro AND so many other associated symptoms that go with it. The list grows longer by the day...lol x

Likewise here, so I understand ! I found also that the mouth rays don't actually work for long, sorry you can't do the sugar free gum, but could you do gum with sugar, it would still promote saliva production. Just a thought

I have lived with this head sweating for years, I have had to cut my hair very short because I end up with no hair style and water running down my neck and face. My doctor just does nothing, it is so embarrassing and it makes you feel quite weak I can be like a waterfall in heat or cold out doors or in. I will try again with a new doctor and see if I get any where.

Thank you all so much, I hate sweating, makes me feel dirty. I am only going to take the drug for the wedding, am off tomorrow on a spa weekend for my daughters hen. The young ones are going out in Norwich while us oldies are relaxing back at the hotel.

I shall be looking for one of those water fans, any idea where to get one? I dont go to town, would have to get someone to get it for me, sounds great.

Went to Asda last night to get some late bits, was in total agony when we got to the till, sweat was running off me, the man serving looked at me and said yeah it is hot in here! lol better than him saying look at the state of you lol. Like others I never sweated before, now I am like a tap, I can be sat down doing nothing and it starts. Grrrrrrrrrrr x

I'm on this medication and it is very effective in stopping the sweating. Yes, the down side is it does dry your mouth out and I have to force myself to pee! To be honest, I'd rather take the medication and carry a small bottle of water with me. Give it a try and see how you go. Gail x

I have heard of it, known as Probanthine or as already mentioned, Propantheline. Search it on google, there's lots of info about it.

This won't help Nanatre at the moment, but I take Black Cohosh. It takes about 2-3 months to get into your system but really does help. Always check with your GP that it doesn't clash with other meds, but I wouldn't be without it, if I don't take it I wake 3 or 4 times a night throwing the covers off and pour during the day. Might be worth a try for others who are suffering

I am pleased to say the wedding was amazing. I didn't sweat walking down the aisle, but started to sweat after standing waiting to give my daughter away in front of the vicar.

I can hold onto a trolley round a small supermarket but as soon as I stop moving it runs down my face. I am not sure if I can have this med all the time, I haven't asked.

I hate the summer, I hate the heat, I also hate the winter with central heating. I just hate sweating!!!
