Hi all,I saw my g.p about my increased depression, severe headaches and gradual worsening of my fm symptoms and went there with a massive long list of things to ask that peeps on hare had suggested. My dosulepin has been increased to see if it helps with sleep and depression.I asked about long term counselling as VG suggested but there is none on the nhs so will have to pay privately.Ive been prescribed propanalol for migraines, does anyone else take these and do they work? She checked my last blood tests and said I wasn't b12 deficient as someone here suggested and thyroid test was fine.I asked about tests to see if I had any food intolerances and she said they don't do it and it would be something I would have to pay for privately.Has anyone had these done?I asked if I could be re-referred to the m.e/f.m clinic at st guys & st Thomas's in London as I went there a few years back and was told that the practise manager would contact me with the choices of hospitals I could be seen at.Hope they are not going to say that I can't go there like they did a few years back,it took a bit of persuasion and I did my research and found out that I could go there. They should let me go there as I went a few years ago, will wait and see what they say. Thanks to everyone for all your kind replies and many helpful suggestions, hugs to you all xxxx

I tried Propanalol for migraine years ago. They didn't work for me, and I now take Clonidine instead, but we are all different and I know of people who have had good results with them.

I have also paid privately for food intolerance testing. I did find that very useful as I am now able to control my IBS and migraines much better. I went to a private local clinic but I do believe it is something that Holland and Barrett do now and again.

Hi there haribo, I was on propanalol ages ago, it is a prophylactic treatment for migraine, it is meant to reduce the occurrence of migraine, it didn't make much difference to me other than make my blood pressure even lower than it normally is.....great....not !! I now take Maxalt (rizatriptan) which is a tablet you stick in the corner of your cheek and it gets absorbed into the bloodstream really quickly. I can't speak highly enough of it, it mostly takes the pain away for me, I still feel like I've been run over by a steam roller though for a day or so, but it is a small price to pay for not having the vice like pain of migraine for days on end.

I hope you manage to get the treatment you need very soon.

Foggy x

Hi Haribo.....yes i have been on propanolol for migraines but they didnt work for me. My body wouldnt let me get up to a dose which would be affective enough for my migraines. I struggle immensely with side effects from all meds i have taken. Propanolol was a tricky one for me. As we chatted the other day i have also suffered immensely for 2 years with a constant daily headache. I had a food intolerance test funny enough last week on recommendation of a friend who also suffered with migarines. Its wasnt cheap. Cost £75 but what was worth it. I found i was wheat intolerant and the biggy for my headaches was cows milk! Cows milk apprently is a renown trigger for headaches and i love my decaff tea!!! So since last Tuesday i have switched Goats milk which is just as nice by the way. Cut out all of the other foods i am intolerant to and since Saturday i havent had a headache!!! I am also taking a pro-biotics. I am basically dairy and wheat intolerant and it is quite tricky at the mo finding things i can eat but im getting there. So yes go for the food test or even just try cutting cows milk out of your diet completelt for a week see how you get on. The sumatriptan i talked about for headaches would he not prescribe that for you? If not you can actualy buy a milder version over the couner called Imigran.......have a chat with your pharmacsit see if thats an aoption for you. Now Haribo i simply take a very mild muscle relaxer....the rest im trying the natural route. Supplements, vitamins, Gentle exercise and the right diet for me and my body. I feel for your pain........keep strong stay positive and what gets me through my rough times is just knwoing that nothing is forever!!!! xxx

Hello. I used to get several migraines every week but started taking magnesium a few years ago and since then I've had 2 or 3. Reading some of the posts quite a few say magnesium isn't good for fibro but it doesn't seem to affect mine.

My GP told me there was no counselling service but a different one gave me info on a Wellbeing service which runs alongside NHS and you can self refer and doesn't cost anything, they assess you to give you the appropriate help.

I also asked to be referred to Guy's and was told that I couldn't because Rheumatology at the local hospital dealt with fibro. I paid to see Prof Davies privately (I was applying for retirement and his letter helped with the independent assessors, not Capita though), I'm not sure if the little bit of relief was worth the cost of his treatment and the travelling there and back. When I told Rheumy that I had seen him I was discharged as they "could do no more" for me.

Keep strong and if this GP can't help anymore then ask to see another. Fingers crossed for you.

Hi sorry you are having such a bad time. I have had migraines for many years now and can now tell when they are coming on. The thing that works for me is Sumatriptin. It can be bought over the chemists counter under the man of Imogen but they are about £3.00 each so it is well worth asking your doctor for them if you dont have to pay for your prescriptions. They are brill.

Good luck with the hospital and the fact that there is never any money for anything that makes us better. My acupuncture was stopped because of cost. I then went private but it was getting too expensive so I stopped. I certainly feel worse for not having it. What has happened to the free national health service??????

Bye for now take care Love Axxx

Hi, really sorry things are so bad for you.

Sumatriptan works for me too, so do ask your GP about it. It's the only thing thats ever helped my migraines.

Take care,

Mim
