A double heart and lung transplant patient died just NINE DAYS after the Government stopped her benefits and ordered her to go back to work.
Linda Wootton, 49, was on 10 prescription drugs a day, suffering high blood pressure, renal failure and regular blackouts.
Yet Atos – the private firm carrying out the Government’s controversial work capability assessments – ruled she was fit enough to find a job after she was interviewed.

ive read this with sadness what the hell is going on I at the moment am having problems with the bedroom tax and having to prove I need xtra room for my daughter when im very ill not just with the fibro but my mentel health is bad to and isgetting worse I have a dla review due in nov this year and I just don't have any more fight left in me and yes ive been thinking of just ending it that's been a daily thought for along time now ive tried many times I spend a lot of time fighting that thought to but with everything that's going on it makes me wonder all the more whats the point its hard enough coming to terms with such a painful disability without having to deal with being made to feel like scroungers or beggers I just get the feeling the government want rid of us like we are an embaressment and a drain on society and should be looked down on.
I dont know what to say. I can feel another white wash coming up. There will be 'an investigation', we'll get the same old rhetoric rubbish that means nothing at all, and nothing will change.
Waste of a precious life. Actually, I find I have got quite a lot to say, but it wont help anyone.

Her "medical" took place at the same centre as mine. I failed too- despite having active RA (rheumatoid arthritis). I am waiting for a tribunal date. I wonder if it was same "nurse" that saw me. They (DWP) state that "the decision was reached after a thorough assessment and after consideration of all supporting medical evidence". So they seem (to me) to have already justified their decision. This Government and its cronies have blood on their hands,an utter shambolic system in place here with what seems to be murderous intent,surely this cannot continue,why hasn't the European Court Of Human Rights become involved to rid us of this unjust and criminal regime! I would think the European Court of Human Rights have not been involved because the government policies have hit people who are unable to afford the legal costs to challenge them!

I read this story in sundays daily mirror paper, it is absolutely pathetic .ATOS need a severe boot up the backside and the government do for using us as "bait" for ATOS, it is like we are rabbits in a lab to be experimented on, but for this poor womeans family it must be soul destroying ,there the poor woman is lying in bed at deaths door and getting a letter saying she's fit for work ,it just goes to show how incompetent the government and ATOS are
....maybe when the elections come around again a certain prime minister will be kicked out of office the better...

totally agree-I also know of people getting highest rate of dla for mobility and they are more agile than i am.also when you go to A&E with a genuine complaint and there are drunks in the next cubicle getting treatment ahead of you.i ve heard in the past they get money so they can buy alcohol .dont know how true that is
Sorry to say this is not new, in 2010 my husband had just had a quadruple bypass 10 days prior to his ATOS medical and failed, The system is not geared for anyone who is really ill
Even after we asked for a revision it took letters to our MP and consultants and a pending appeal before DWP admitted they were wrong but no sooner had they done that and requested he have another medical...
Fortunately by this time a year had passed and he decided to go back to work even though imo and the docs he wasn't ready, as a result hubby although still working is in very poor health but what can we do...the system is not geared for the people who really need it
The assessors involved in this case should be sacked! How on earth could she ever be expected to work? I don't know of any jobs you can do whilst lying in the mortuary. I think it's absolutely disgusting. I feel for her husband and family too.
I'm just lost for words, why on earth did they not take into account of her medical history, also why was she reused to have her husband in there with her. I didn't think that has changed. I'm sure t says in the forms you can take someone with, r am I wrong.

The ATOS tick-box test is not fit for purpose, it has far too narrow definitions.
Absolutely appalling. I totally agree with Midoh. As for the DWP response, I'm speechless. Unforgiveable. They should hang their heads in shame. Everyone connected with Linda's assessment should be censured and thrown out on their backsides.

Perhaps the government should stop paying out to migrants, immigrants with feck knows how many kids we have to pay for, their housing and better money. All fact! I am on top rate care and dla and my husband has PTSD and is not safe on his own and on morphine, and a list of drugs to just keep him going most of the time. He has to go for a medical and they say he will have to go back to work. PTSD is bad enough but the worry he is feeling could put him back in a hospital for mental illness.
On the other hand I know a few people who have every benefit poss; and they play the system. One of which is 60 and has never worked or paid Nat; Ins: and its these people and people like them that has caused the problem in the first place.I am sure nearly everyone knows some one who may be doing just that. I don't think Jessum meant any offence to any one on here.
This Site is the best one I have come across, its all of us who get the short end of the stick,because half the time we do not have the energy to fight for our appeal. Let alone have a medical.
I hope you don't feel offended by my reply I just know that out there are some people getting away with it. I would swop my health to be well and not just existing,and I am sure non of us would pretend we have this aweful illness messing with our lives!

Playing the system? Typical government spin comment. Once again, there is no reason to use pejorative terms. The government does this and the papers, which just stokes the fires of hatred to the sick and disabled even more. There is no excuse to use such terms.
Actually, the 60 year hold has not caused the problem! The problem is that the government give benefits to immigrants and migrant workers, asylum seekers, free housing and NHS and not a one has paid in to the system, hence they are a drain on our resources that struggle to cope with the indigenous people, let alone uncontrolled immigration and migration of workers and health tourists.
When channel 4 did their programme on the so called welfare cheats, they could not find any. Be careful of accusing others of cheating. You could be investigated yourself. And if they remove people's benefits, you could be next. The fraud rate of any benefit is tiny, and DWP and DLA figures support that. DLA 0.5 fraud, Jobseekers/ESA 0.2%. So no, not everyone knows someone doing it. That is just rubbish. I expect that sort of reply and comment from the government or the papers, but from someone like you, no, it is not acceptable. Perhaps you ought to check your figures before you go spouting off nonsense. And yes, I am offended, as I was by the last numbnuts.

How do you know they are getting away with it? You cannot look at people and just decide they are cheating. There are disabilities that are not visible, or physical. Most illnesses are not visible. Mental ill health is not, nor are learning disabilities.

Maybe GP's should have lessons on how to write to Atos ?

ATOS strikes again! it's appalling,, I fail to see how seeing some numpty who doesn't know me, or anything much about my condition, should decide if i'm fit to work,, often I can barely walk from one room to another, just "being" hurts,, I don't have to stand or move to be in pain,, all this crap about not letting your GP or consultant speak on your behalf is crazy! the "justification" is that you could be "bringing pressure to bear" on them,, what? I can afford to bribe these people? don't think so! so much drivel being spouted,, I have often harboured thoughts about ending it all,, there is nothing to look forward to except poverty and pain,, our docs tell us to "avoid stress",, how the hell can we do that when we have to spend so much time proving to idiots that we are ill,, do people really believe we would choose this? I had to give up my job, drop to less than a third of my income,, to live in virtual isolation because I can't afford to go out as I can no longer drive, ,it's all nuts,, this is probably a bit shambling and rambling,, apologies,, fibro fog muddles my thoughts
