Is neuropathic pain the same as fibromyalgia? I have been taking Amitriptyline for a month.
Hi,
I think it is one of the fibromyalgia symptoms. I get burning, stabbing and grinding pain in my feet. I also tale amitriptyline for it.
Hugs
I was put on amitriptyline to take 2 at night to help sleep to ease pain.all so ease for the nerve twitching at night. Been on them for about 4 years. also i ran and had a couple of restless sleep.
(((hugs)))
Hi Chimbelina, fibromyalgia causes neuropathic pain but so do other conditions - I think most illnesses that effects the nervous system. I've been on gabapentin for the last 4 years and I'm just changing to pregabalin and they are both painkillers for neuropathic pain. I tried amitriptyline years ago but I never found it worked for me.
Hope this helps and doesn't just confuse you!
Mim x
Thanks . . .
Neuropathic pain, if you're being really strict about the definition, is pain from damaged nerves. Whether Fibro actually involves damaged nerves is not clear - Fibro is primarily a central processing disorder, so your brain identifies there being pain without any damage needed at all!
But a lot of people would consider neuropathic pain to be nerve type pain and this is certainly typical with both Fibro, and with Myofascial Pain. Although this is a condition in its own right, it is also a symptom of Fibro.
I get that burning on my Achilles tendon and up my legs... also sometimes on the back of my hands and then waves of muscle muscle weakness in legs and arm. Then random stabbing pains which can happen anywhere such as head neck arms and legs! In addition my hips, knees and wrists are usually painful, worse after exercise or after sitting and at night trying to turn over bed.
