How do you use it and has anyone derived any benefits.
Has anyone tries coconut oil, which I... - Fibromyalgia Acti...
Has anyone tries coconut oil, which I gather is a solid!
Ok I googled it and tried to keep a straight face ..... No medical proof it actually does anything ......except on the sites that are selling it .... Who claim its the eighth wonder of the world But the top15 uses are shoe cleaner hair conditioner. Floor wax . Etc etc the only medical thing it says it helps is canker... Which I think cats and dogs get in their ears .... So ... Unless you have an animal with ear problems I would say it doesn't do a lot ...
I stand by to be corrected

Ta, no pets but my son often cocks a deaf un.
I'm not sure eating Saturated fat has any medical benefits, unless you want high cholesterol??!!
Coconut oil is a wonderful hair conditioner, cuticle conditioner, a very good massage oil and skin softener, and a useful make up remover if you've run out of the posh stuff. It's also very cheaply available from Superdrug, Boots, etc.
It's solid at cool room temperature, but melts to a silky oil on your skin. I love the stuff and have used it for years, but the only thing it's ever cured is my dry skin!
It's apparently a good quality cooking oil and it's used in biscuit and cake manufacture - again, it's cheap!
I believe it's now being marketed as a health supplement - at a hugely inflated price of course, and though it's high in saturates, it's apparently the better sort which help to reduce your cholesterol.
Personally, I shall continue to use it on my skin, 'cos it's great - and cheap, but I shan't be cooking with it when health stores are charging more for the culinary grade than for good olive oil
I doubt if it has any health benefits above ordinary cooking oils, but if you want to rub it on your skin - Hell, yes!

I love it as a skin moisturiser and massage oil, lip balm etc. It is solid but melts easily in your hands. I put it in a bowl of warm water to liquidise it then transfer it to smaller containers. It's a lighter alternative to petroleum jelly (so more environmentally friendly and I think nicer and softer to use) but have not noticed any miracle benefits beyond that.
Have to agree with all that Moffy says. I have been suing Coconut Oil on hair and skin for many many years, but have never tried to eat it. Maybe I should stick a spoonful in the Actifry with my chips
oops, meant USING it, no suing it, lol. Arms too sore to type properly - again
I use it for cooking stir fry,, for my hair and my skin. It's good for MS so they say ,, I just use it mostly for stir fry cooking,,
It has been in the papers quite recently to do with helping dementia, in particular, Altzheimers & some interesting reading on the Internet with it re Altzheimers. I have been looking into it as my Gran has dementia but as she has a mix of Altzheimers & vascular dementia it would not be suitable because of the high saturated fat content & she already has high cholesterol, so could be very dangerous for the vascular side of things. It has to be the high quality pure kind.
I use it in place of marge etc when making cakes and biscuits, granola etc. it's health benefits arse that it raises good cholesterol and lowers bad. You can have high cholesterol provided the ration of good and bad is the right way. But then I can't eat dairy so it's a great substitute for me!
Yes its a more healthy option to use instead of marg and oil....its avoiding canola which is toxic and found in many olive oils...and dairy free marg. Good olive oil is fine but expensive. Coconut oil is much cheaper. Its solid from the fridge but softens easily if left out......like butter. It tastes really nice in cooking....but I have it on crackers now too
The only coconut oil I have used is used as hair oil - it is liquid - and it does improve the condition of my hair!
Iv read it is good for Memory loss/dementia. My friends husband has severe memory loss, she has just started him on coconut oil. Its thick and she gives it him from a spoon. Trying to find out if coconut water would help
There are many health benefits with coconut oil and it is good for your brain, brain food they say as it s high in the right the fats. I have started using it for food cooking and i have also started to add it to salad etc. They say with our condition, it good for virus and bacteria and yeast and anti-inflamatory properties. They say that our condition and CFS are associated with the epstein barr virus. Coconut oil is able to disrupt and destroy by dissolving the virus fatty envelope. I have just bought a book called the coconut oil diet by maria blanco and dr. james pendleton, great read.
I have a friend who swears by it go absolutely everything including all sorts of health problems, final infections spots etc. You can get special cooking oil that has the distinctive smell and flavour extracted for general cooking but the solid form is fine for Curries, stir fries and Tai cooking or on toast.
