FIBROMYALGIA STUDY KINGS COLLEGE LONDON (BLOOD SAMPLE)

Hi I wanted to participate in this study but my GP's surgery wants to make a £15.00 charge for taking the sample, has anyone else had this problem, it seems a lot of money which I really can't afford to pay out.

Hello jjw8207,

This sounds ridiculous, I went to the hospital as I was getting other bloods done and they were happy to take it. I would either explain this issue to the Kings College Hospital and see if they can contact your GP surgery or can you go to your local hospital instead.

I wondered also would you be interested in taking part in other research at all, link below

If so, please email info@fibroaction.org with your postal address.

Hope you get your blood taken soon for the research without any problem

Are you due to get any other blood tests taken at your doctor's? If you are then wait until then and get them all taken at the same time. X

Not had a response yet either.

Julia, most towns have a walk-in clinic that might do bloods for you or you could try the phlebotomy dept of your local hospital. It's normally a walk-in so you don't need to pre-book. Might be best to call and check re charging though. Strictly speaking this isn't classed as NHS work and surgeries aren't supposed to do private work in NHS time but do it after clinic and charge for it. Different surgeries have their own interpretation and set their own fees so always worth ringing round x

Hi Spirit & Mistymeana,

Here are the Kings College details on our website with the phone number if you would like to find out when your blood sample kits are due to be posted

I had the same problem, my GP wanted payment as it wasn't a test requested by them. Luckily I am a former nurse so I was able to take the blood myself. XX

My Gp never charged me anything, neither did the nurse who took my bloods for this research.
