No more meds.

Hi all. I had another horrid day on Wednesday. I keep having terrible nightmares and had one Tuesday night that left me fragile and panicky all day. I ended up calling the doctors for help. Interestingly the receptionist I spoke to was more helpful than the doctor! She confided that she suffers panic attacks too and had a few words of advice bless her. The doctor just said sorry there isn't anything else we can do as we can't change your meds. It left me feeling terribly frustrated and not cared about. One of my close friends is also getting similar treatment by this particular practice. It's quite demoralising. I guess I've got to cope with this by myself and also with the help of my counsellor. It's just taking so very long. I wishi had never started doing that counselling course as it really has opened a can of worms. I feel so fragile. I'm sleeping downstairs on the couch at the mo as for some reason I'm too scared to sleep in my bed as I am associating it with the nightmares. My son is sleeping downstairs as well so I'm not on my own bless him. I do seem so very much worse when I'm on my own.i used to be so independent. Trying to accept this illness is not easy at all. I suppose I do to a certain extent,it's the emotional side of it that's flooring me at the moment. I feel my past has jumped on top of me andi can't free myself from it.

Hi TM,

I do sympathise - I get awful nightmares!

A few tips - try the old fashioned hot milk and honey at bedtime, maybe a hot bath, and settle down with something non-stimulating to read. Some chick-lit, gardening catalogues, even the Argos catalogue has found its way onto my bedtime list!

Don't go to bed hungry, but no heavy meal right before bed.

Move your bed to another position if you can, and swap things around so it looks different.

If you don't mind perfumes, a drop of essential oil of lavender and camomile is lovely on your bedlinen, and make sure you have enough pillows. I know it sound daft, but I get worse nightmares when I lie too flat!

Try a night light - it adds only a few pennies to your electric bill, and I never sleep without one - I hate the pitch darkness!

if you could sleep peacefully, you would be better able to deal with your other worries - it's a step in the right direction, at any rate.

Wishing you sweet dreams.

Moffy x

Have you tried hypnotherapy for your sleep disturbance? If you have a smart phone you can download some really good sleep/relaxation hypnotherapy scripts for free I take my iPhone to bed every night and find them really useful. It is worth trying different ones as we all have different ways of relaxing x big hugs x

Hi, I think people have given some great advice, I'm so sorry you are feeling so dreadful at the moment, and wish so much that things could improve for you. It sounds like your GP needs to rethink things, as I'm sure there are alternatives that he could pursue, and if a friend is getting similar fobbing off, then maybe a wake up call to them is needed. Take care, and yell if you need more help and support. Foggy x
