Have just asked for the guides too. Just received the dreaded letter. Last thing needed after 6 solid weeks of insomnia. I rarely post but am always so grateful for the help and advice on here as live alone and very isolated.

The physical involves bending your knees and raising your arms above your head, picking up a pen or cup, then there is a little eye test, can you see the big gorilla sitting in front of you, with or without glasses? The mental health part involves questions as to how you cope with life in general and if you can look after yourself, prepare food etc, without causing injury to yourself. A load of nonsense basically, no consideration is given to the fact that you have been signed off unfit for work by a real doctor with real medical qualifications.

They won't say you can work, they use points, you need 15 or more to get ESA, score less than this and you can appeal.

since I received my summons at the beginning of the week I have gone downhill, keep crying, feel so low, pain off the scale I feel utterly dreadful - I did get one surprise though this morning, my new award for DLA given in full - from the DWP from a different department.

I know how you feel mo , having fm is difficult enough , without added stress of esa , or dla , as leanne stated we all send sick notes in from doctors who have signed us off work , but we still have to go through more added stress . Iam at the moment filling in the questionarre from esa , doesnt help iam foggy as , cant think straight so much happeneing with other things , which gives more pain and soreness xx sorry ive started to vent x

I went to my ESA medical with my daughter,I brought my high chair that I got ,many years ago from the OT's at the hospital, every back support i could wear I ware, plus it didn't help that I had a panic attack days earlier & ended up at the out of hours's gp & put on valium...All the nurse could say to me was "you have stenosis of your spine" I said "Yes" but she kepted saying it....forget the fact that I was stressed out with worry ,with a under active thyroid, Fibromyalgia & all that it brings, diverticulitis , arthritis in my spine, thump joints, hips knee's & left ankle...it was "you have stenonis in your spine" she went on & on & on about...what did she expect from" a Proud to be Conscientious,Caring,Under Paid,Over Worked & Under Paid ex- NHS worker?"

She eventually left the room to make a phone call, than came in apologising for calling me in......saying I should never should have been called in for a medical..I got my ESA letter a week later saying I was getting a little increase in money ( not much) but I'm happy about it,and I was still unfit for work,I AM sorry but I LOVED my job do they really think I wouldn't be at work if I wasn't poorly ??? If so there crazy or they just don't know me.......That was back in November 2012.

Last week I got my DLA/PIP letter saying I could be called in for a medical possible every year + I got a little increase in money £1.50,what the hell do they expect,my medical issue's to get better as I get older ???? Sorry but thats NOT going to happen...my "stenosis of my spine" has got worse travelling down to my coccyxs (tail bone) I have sciatica in both buttocks with pins & needles going down to my feet 24/7,I also have pins & needles in my hands.. So if your going to a ESA medical,be honest ( they know more about you than you think!) get your GP to give you a print out of your condition ,medical history & medication...that's what I did...if you use a walking stick, use it & any other thing or gadget you use..with me it was hand shields for my arthritis, remember you don't use two of these shields when driving as you will have to tell the DVLA....& that's something you dont want, even like me when you drive a automatic 4x4..(12 years old...)

I wish you the Very Best of British Luck....If you dont get it go to CAB.
