the beep beep beeping doctor has refused to give it on repeat!!
as on a previous blog i said i was having panic attacks and suffering very bad muscle spasms, the lovely locum doc gave me diazapam.
i only took as needed and it really helped with both!
on phoning for a repeat, the message from doc was "im not allowing you anymore as i only give this shortterm, make an appointment and we can try something different!"
i have been trying different tablets for years and this is the first one what really works and they going to stop it!!!
so not fair!

I too am not allowed any more diazepam for my muscle spasms, bt no matter how often i tell my doc they actually do help immensely she refuses to let me have any more. I am now out and also only 4 tramadol left so gonna have to make sure i see a doc mon/tuesday as my back is already in so much pain still and i know if i do anything this weekend even though i got energy it will seize up then i will be stuck.
I hope they give you some more or something as effective.
i get diazapam for anxiety and panic attacks but i also use them for spasms try talking to your gp explain they help with all of these and he might give you a lmt supply i get 30 tablets around 3 months use them sparingly i hope you get some more love and gentle hugs lyn xxx
im going to see doc this week so fingers crossed, my panic attacks have stopped since using diazapam so really worried if i stop they come back, which is not good as i know that can bring them on being anxious and worried,,,,viscious circle!!!
Its all so frustrating Nadine especially when you find something that works. Go have a chat to your GP and perhaps he will change his mind or find something else that works for you. Take care, Angela xx
Hi Nadine, I can totally understand where you're coming from, but having worked in a pharmacy can also see why they won't give it you on repeat prescription. I have posted a link about diazepam above this, and hope it helps.
Because of the effects of the tablets, a lot of people can get a high dependancy on them, and it is hell to get off them. And after taking them a while they lose the potency to treat your discomfort. That is why doctors only prescribe a few at a time. I had some when my father passed away a couple of years ago, as I wasn't sleeping at all, and even though I found they helped me in other ways, I knew that there was a high chance I could get addicted to them.
There might be other things that he/she can give you that might help in a different way - I would get to see them asap and see what they can do.
hi nadine i understand coz i have diazapam for my spasms ,i think its probably coz they are addictive that they wont put them on repeat hun ,i try n use them sparingly coz of this but they are affective arnt they?go bak to c the doc again and tell him u only use them sparingly he minght give u some then soft hugs tofty xx

hi oh dearbwell the only thing you can do is go to see your gp as he has suggested have a chat and hopefully he will see all the meds you have been on etc and will re instarte them for youm good luck diddle x
Mmmmmm Nadine, diazepam can only be given on a short term as it is an opioid drug. Yes it is fantastic for muscle spasms I use it when I am flying to the States, as I get pannicky etc with it being such a long flight, and even though I have a brilliant Dr., it is just one of those things and governed by NICE ( National Institute of Clinical Exellence)
my only grieviance is that they happy to give me codiene and in the past pethidine over a long period of time but argue over diazepam, they all addictive!!!.............i wonder if diazepam is an expensive drug???
i am having the exact same problem.. they work with my muscle pain and spasms also my migraine..i dont abuse them, i only use them if i really need them.. fri my son picked up my prescription for me.. for 6 tablets.. wow what am i suppose to do with that little amount..... he left a message on my prescription saying.. we cant prescribe u anymore.. come and see us.. i am sick to death telling them.. cant u come here.. i dont get out... i am mostly in bed..... why is people apart from fibro suffers, not getting this... i am very tired emotionally and physically trying to get people to understand what this does to u on a daily basis... xxx
It is a problem with the benzos. Many GPs are scared of them!
It may be worth asking your doctor about clonazepam instead. This helps to improve the quality of sleep that is a problem with Fibro, as well as having a muscle relaxant and anti-anxiety effect. It is still addictive, but many doctors seem to think it is less so than diazepam. And if you take it at a low dose and either only at bedtime or rarely, then it is less likely to be a problem.
are there any others you know about which work? just as back up? i now try to go in with some requests as it saves them sitting there looking through books about different meds!! x
I really feel for you Hun. I was prescribed Diazepam months ago to help with the muscle tension and pain. My GP warned me that it can become very addictive so i use it only when nothing else is working and I'm desperately at my wits end. Because I don't take them regularly, my GP is happy for me to have them on repeat prescription, so I count myself very lucky.
I have never taken more than 2 in a day, and as I said, save them for the more severe days. I know my doctor is monitoring my use, and he's obviously happy with it. I think you just need to have a good chat with your GP and explain how much it helps you, but assure him/her that you won't use it unless you're desperate.

I get a tablet from the doctor on repeat which is related to valium (diazepam) but doesn't have the same potential for addiction. It doesn't give that feeling of 'oh, everything is OK' that diazepam gives but is a great muscle relaxant and works foro me. It's called Baclofen. I was first prescribed it by a pain clinic for muscle spasms in my neck before I was diagnosed with fybro but find it helps with that too. The problem with Baclofen is that it is really sedating without any 'buzz' so I usually only take it late at night unless I'm very bad. At first it left me feeling very groggy in the morning and sleeping late but that wears off as you get used to it but the muscle relaxing effect continues. I hope this is useful.
Oh aren't docs so frustrating and annoying. Sorry to hear this.
hope whatever he prescribes does some good for you. I can't take many meds and i discovered why. I have Sjogren's syndrome too. It mentions an intolerance to medication and to keep off as much as possible.
Well everyone I realise how lucky I am. I have been on diazepam for 47, yes 47 years. My daughter (52) was born in 1960 - yes I'm very old compared with the majority on here. In those days post natal depression was ignored and you just had to get on with it. Anyway I ended up with a breakdown and it was at a time when Valium was the all singing and dancing "mothers little helper". I had a GP who used to dole it out like smarties and a repeat prescription was given over the phone whenever you wanted. I personally dont know what all the fuss is about. I leave it alone when I find I dont really want it but it has been a lifesaver to me and really helpful. Still have it prescribed every month. Told the doctor its part of my chemical make up now and it does help when I really need it.
Find taking the Diyhydrocodeine I take now for my FM/ME/CS is far more addictive than taking the diazepam.....The Dihydro only takes the edge off the pain. Diazepam helps me to relax the muscles more and luckyily I have a GP who still ;prescribes it for me. I have no intention of ever giving it up. OK It may be addictive but it helps and while I can I am staying on it.
