I worked very part time, but the pain is now unbearable. I wondered if it is means tested because my husband works part time?

ESA income related is means tested. Your savings, private pension income, and partner income is all taken into consideration.

Contrabution esa is payed on your national insurance record and is only payable for a year (365) day's this also depends on any income from private pensions if income is more than £80 per week from your pension provider.

This is in all groups of esa..... Work related activity group and the support group..

Hope this helps and is my understanding and my own currant position as I receive a private pension (disability related) and not entitled to any state benefits.

Oh I receive DLA so I probably wouldn't get ESA.

But it's not my fault I can't work, I'm ill. My employees don't have to pay me because its a tempory contract.

Bah....

DLA is totally seperate to ESA so if you are entitled to both you can claim both, also DLA payments don't count towards income

I don't understand, how do you claim ESA? Is this a certificate you get from your GP

DLA I know is not means tested but to receive ESA do you have to prove you have no money and no home?

Please advise many thanks. I just don't know where to start

Hi suz22, Your contribution ESA is only payable for 365 days ( wrg or support group) after your 365 day period ends you will be asked to apply for income related ESA

Income related esa is means tested. Should you have savings and this will also include your partners, wife/husbands savings of more than £16,000 you would not receive any ESA benefit payments.

You would be expected to use your savings to live on until you have reached the £16k limit.

Lucyw, With your question, Go to your Job centre plus office and ask for a ESA50 form complete the form and send it to your DWP benefit office, Ask job centre for envelope with your ESA 50 form.

After a few weeks you will be invited to attend a work capability assessment. then placed into a group, ie work related or support group.

Visit your local citizen advice office, They also have the ESA50 forms and can help fill in the details and advise you too.

Hope this helps you both....

Hi Steve, many many thanks.

I will do this as soon as I can.

Is it best to be in work related group or support group?

It depends on your circumstances. Work related you get less money but people in this group get help getting back to work when they're fit enough. Support group is for those who cannot work & are unlikely to be able to do so again - you get more money in this group & don't have to attend meetings at job centre. Hope that makes sense!
