Not my lower back but I have chronic neck and shoulder pain everyday.. I can't turn my neck to the right and I can't take anything for it except paracetamol I react badly to every other pain med... I have trigger point injections every three months in my neck and shoulder and that keeps the pain to a bearable level most days ...but I have to limit my self so much to avoid an unbearable flare its meant a big lifestyle change... I can no longer drive carry anything ...use a computer keyboard or mouse oh I could go on for England .. Fortunately I can tip tap with two fingers on an iPad... So I get to be on here so its not all bad for me :)

I really feel for you grumpy, I'm allergic to some meds and i put that down to the asthma, but not what I'm on at the moment and I hope it stays that way,it doesn't take it away completely but helps to cope, I hope the injections continue to work for you, there isnt much we can do is there that doesnt cause so much pain, it's a very debilitating condition, that's a point grumpy so many people say condition, yet others say desease, there is a difference, do you know which one is right ??, the iPad is a boon isn't it,...have a reasonably good day, gentle hug ....Dee xx

I suffer with spasms in my lower back which are really painfully and sum times take my breath away. It hurts so much that I can't walk or stand when it happens. No pain killers help. I feel tired most of the time and I get really run down because of it and the rest of the pain that comes with Fibro x

YES! me2 there awfully painful , sorry u feel that way too..=)

Yes VG, that's me, without the trigger point injections. Now, after a 2-level ADR 3 years ago, I am now facing a laminectomy also - once I've had the nerve root block injection next Wednesday as a "double-check diagnostic".

It's awful isn't it.... I've not been able to work for 21 months now.

Please let me know how your nerve root block goes ...as my shoulder and neck spasm when you touch the base of my neck its like an electric shock and its spread to the the other side of my neck in the last few months I now have to have both sides of my neck injected..... I really would just like my neck removed its very short anyway :)

Have you been diagnosed with Myofascial Pain Syndrome or Myofascial Trigger Points? These are so common with Fibro to be considered a symptom, but its actually a condition in its own right and needs different treatment.

Personally I found specialist Myofascial Release therapy (MFR) extremely helpful. But you have to go private for that. It was worth it to be able to walk and move again!

Yes smoab I have the same as you daily, the back in particular drives me mad, it's loo painful as is the neck and shoulders, I also get spasm in my thigh and arm muscles, I did hav an op on my back about 7 yrs ago, I had a lumber defusion, also what I call nuts n bolts further up , not sure but think that's called spinal fusion, wished I had never had it done, the doc says the back pain is due to fibro as well as the spondylosis of lumber spine, so I do sympathise with you and know what's are all going thru, I'm on gabapentin for the nerve endings and tramadol and co codamol for pain, but it doesn't tak it away completely , they say there isn't any medication for fibro that will take it away completely, gentle hugs to u all ...Dee xxx

Hello,

I am the same. Most of my pain is in my neck, shoulders and whole back! I take Gabapentin, Severdol, Paracetomol & Duloxetine .. & I am still in constant pain, so still working with the pain clinic and my GP to get it under controlled and managed!

Yes, i suffer with back pain, particularly lower and have headaches due to neck and shoulder pain. I have to say though, that without my osteopath i would be much worse off. I can't recommend him highly enough and maybe you are able to get to one that could help you? I honestly feel things would be different for me if i wasn't realigned every so often! ;) x

Yes I suffer with neck,, back and shoulder pain most days especially on my left side and also low back pain on and off too.

My Rheumy suspects I have a trapped nerve in my neck or shoulder on the left side and an mri has shown some disc degeneration (osteoarthritis) on the right side of my neck. I have Fibro too. But the nerve pain is different to the Fibro pain, on bad days the Fibro painspreads all over....

I sometimes get attacks of neck and shoulder pain, which can last for weeks.

I am glad it hasn't become constant, as I really think it's the worst pain I have ever suffered from either fibro or arthritis. It's so limiting, as everything you do will aggravate it!

I do hope that you all find an answer to your problems.

Its ok, i know each situation is unique and ill probably never find anyone who experienced this!!! . I was just in so much Pain during that time, i was certain i was going to die of cancer or something. Its been almost 10yrs since then , living with the repercussions of all this has been very difficult to live with as you all know . ill just continue living my life to the fullest and thanking god every day that im still here despite the pain i deal with.. Hugs everyone hoping for a better day tomorrow..onnaroll

Yes, on the left side, and it used to be much worse than it is now, but in Jan 2011 I had a Trigger Point Injection into my neck and it is much improved. It used to make me feel as if my neck was pulling to the left, I had to consciously make the effort to keep my head straight. I also use trigger point therapy, I have a theracane that can reach the muscles on the back on my neck, I find the trigger point using guidance from Clare Davies' book Trigger Point Therapy Workbook. It works for me. Hope this helps, soft hugs.

I really sympathise with you as it's so painful and debilitating. I get spasms in my upper/lower back frequently, when it is at it's worse, I have to have injections. I have always put it down to the fibro, as most of us do. I hope you feel better and get some pain relief soon.

My fibro hurts from the middle of my back, into my hips and down both legs. I also get really stiff muscles in my legs if I walk to much without aid. I do often get short pains in my shoulders or my arms which hurts like crazy. I am on tramadol, pregabalin, lidocaine patches and some type of anti depressants as they say mood can effect your fibro. Hopefully one day they may be able to create pain relief just for fibro. Hope you feel better soon x

Hi, yes, yes, and yes again. Mine started in my arms too!! I have chronic pain in all my joints every day, chronic muscle fatigue to the point most days there will be a time when I can barely stand without being supported again every day. A drill drills my shoulders, a hammer hammers my knees and a saw saws off my ankles, I have bloated stomachs, twisted sensations, burning, prickling muscles spasms, lower back pain. All this and I look the picture of health!

Hello and oh Lord, yes! can I relate to your problems! The pain in my neck, shoulders and back (especially a band across the middle and lower areas) are so horrific I want to scream. And this leads me neatly into something that happened two nights ago. I was trying to watch telly in bed but the pains shooting through my entire back area, neck and shoulders was so dreadful all I could do was sit there crying and whimpering pathetically for some time until I remembered an article I'd read in my Spirit & Destiny magazine which was about a woman who regularly suffered debilitating pain from an unknown source. Anyway, she was advised to shout out loudly: 'NO! Go away pain and, more importantly, go away cause of this pain!' My logic told me this was an exercise in being weird but I was in so much pain I had a go and after shouting this five or six times the pain did reduce to a point that was bearable. (What the neighbours must have thought I don't know.) All I do know is that I was in agony one minute and a minute later I wasn't. Maybe worth a punt? Also, this may have nothing to do with your problems but I was having so much increased pain from my neck that I went to see a physio privately who, after tests and examination, informed me that my C2 or C3 vertebrae (can't remember which one) was slightly overhanging which was causing most of the pain and headaches, both of which had previously been diagnosed by a neurologist as migraine. The physio pressed on the side of my neck and I thought my head was going to explode, felt completely nauseous and had all the usual problems associated with migraine. The moment she removed her finger the pain disappeared. So, the neck pain and the headaches were both mainly caused by this moving vertebrae and its subsequent pressing on an optic nerve. She gave me a series of exercises to do to strengthen the muscles holding this vertebrae in place and it may be worth investigating with your GP, just in case. Hope some of this and all the above tips help you. :-)

I had neck and shoulder pain until someone who I never met from the DWP cured me, as part of the treatment, they also stopped ESA to prevent food toxins from entering my body. It seems to have worked, I now have neck, shoulder, back, arms, legs and hip pain. Chronic anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, migraine, and a few minor ailments that I never had before.

I can associate with your problems too, neck, shoulders radiating down arms, lower back spasms, hips, and all down my legs. Chronic ibs, hyperactive gastro-colic reflex, low capacity bowel, anxiety, depression, myofascial pain, insomnia, fatigue... I could go on but I know I am not alone here and you all understand the problems associated with this wretched illness. One of the things that annoys me greatly is not being able to clean myself after toileting without an aid. My back is so stiff and painful it is impossible to clean myself without either my husbands help or a really good aid that I found on the internet. I seem to spend the majority of my life on the toilet, ever time I eat the hyperactive gastro-colic reflex kicks in and I have to get to the toilet urgently. I wear adult nappies...

I am housebound, but I was prescribed a wheelchair recently as my mobility is so poor. I recently saw a therapist who gave me some hope of being able to go out a little. She said, why don't I get a wheelchair bag and put in all the things I need for toileting. I have done this, I found a portable version of the wiper I use which is in a discreet case, along with nappies, wipes and lean clothes, just in case... I know feel less anxious about getting out of the house as I know I have everything everything discreetly enclosed in my wheelchair bag.

Sending gentle hugs out to all my fellow sufferers and hoping for better days for us all xx

smoab1234, in a nutshell, yes. I have Fibro, cervical spondylosis, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. One of my longest spasm 'episodes' lasted over 6 weeks [continuous!].... spent the whole time in a chair, propped up with pillows and it was truly awful. It seems this is quite a common cluster of problems for many people. Only those who experience this can truly understand how horrible it can be.

I have an adjustable bed which is helpful. I take Pregabalin, Citalopram, Tramadol and top up with co-codamol as needed. Also, as I have COPD, am on various inhalers.
