Symptoms at 5/6 Weeks

Hi,

I'm 5 weeks 6 days and most of the way through I've been having period-like cramps and backache. It doesn't last as long as period pains - at most, it's probably no more than a minute or two at a time, less than 10 times a day, it's not as severe as my worst period pains but it's very similar in nature. I haven't had any bleeding or spotting, just very light pink/brown discharge a couple of times. I haven't been pregnant before and I'm trying to reassure myself that these pains are normal, but sometimes I have more success in that than other times.

I keep thinking that the pregnancy has gone and it's just the additional hormones now stopping the inevitable from happening. I know I have no evidence of this but it's like a little worm inside my head. I'm hoping someone can help put my mind at ease. Are these pains something to worry about?

Thank you.

I had cramping in early pregnancy and was worried, like you, but everyone reassured me it was normal and stretching. The pain suddenly stopped the week before my clinic's scan and I was terrified. I booked a private scan and reassured me loads.Anything you feel for the next few weeks will make you worry and when it stops you'll also worry. I found waiting for the first scan the slowest and hardest time. Just take one day it a time and tick them off as it's all getting closer to the scan for you

I had period-like cramps throughout my first trimester. They stopped as soon as I stopped the progesterone. Hang in there!

Hello CornflowerMoon,

I am 6 weeks tomorrow and have the same symptoms as you. I also had the pinkish/brown discharge this morning for the first time and totally panicked. I called the IVF clinic and they assured me that the mild cramps and the discharge are completely normal. They said the discharge is old blood that has made its way down my cervix. They said only to worry if the discharge becomes red, like period red.

I hope this offers some reassurance for you and you are able to relax xxx

Thank you, that helps. I've been exhausted all day and never been happier about it 😂

Hi,

I'm 5 weeks 4 days and also having some mild cramping on and off. I don't usually get cramping with periods.

I've also had some light brown discharge, as well as some white creamy discharge, and also a bit of spotting (brown spotting last two days). All of it (but especially the spotting) is scary as even though I can read it is completely normal, it could of course change to bright red at any time and become an issue. Today the spotting, although still light, was a little more.

hi CornflowerMoon I hope you’re well, I’m 5 weeks 1 day , I did get mild cramps just before my OTD and on the OTD, I was so worried thinking it would be my period as it felt just like when it’s about to start , plus my OTD was same than my period date. Got a nice surprise with the test that morning and when I rang the nurses they said not to worry that there’s a lot of stretching happening internally or it could be the progesterone , so it’s all normal as long as there’s no fresh blood. Hope you’re feeling calmer xx, I think there are quite a lot of changes that would be new to us so it’s normal that we worry about it , just try to relax whilst you wait for your scan. hopefully everything will continue to develop as well as it should, best of luck xx
