How do IVF meds make you feel?

Hi all, after a delay starting my first IVF cycle due to covid, I’m about to start my meds on Saturday for the first time.

I know it is different for everyone but I’m just wondering how the meds make you feel? I’ll be starting on Burserelin (Suprecur) then Overleap then Menopur.

I’d love to hear of different peoples experiences on these drugs.

I think it varies a lot by person and even cycle. I never really had any problems with buserelin on my first round - the odd hot flush but that was largely it. On the second round, I had to downreg for 3 instead of 2 weeks and did feel a bit more hot flushy, tired and grumpy that third week. However, no worse than a bit of PMT! I did not use Ovaleap but instead Bemfola, which is basically the same thing. That did not really affect me much other than helping with the hot flushes from the buserelin. The thing that affected me the worst was actually coming off the progesterone at the end of the uncuccessful round. It was only a week of feeling really awful but that did hit me far harder than the drugs at the start. The TWW is a time to be kind to yourself anyway, but if the worst happens and the round is usuccessful, be extra kind to you in that first week or two afterwards (I only mention it as no one warned me and it hit me like a freight train). Best of luck wih your round and ask for support whenever you need it xx

Thank you for your reply. I am supposed to be on a long protocol so will be on Burserelin for a few weeks I think (I’m still trying to get my head around the timings and dates). I will definitely be mindful of the TTW and after.

Hi, I also had buserelin, menopur and overleap. After our initial consultation with the nurse when she explained all the side effects I have to admit I felt pretty scared. Especially when she explained the emotional impact. Apart from hot flushes and feeling a bit emotional at times I felt pretty good. I was also anxious about giving myself injections but this turned out to be absolutely fine, you soon get used to it. The cyclogest did give me horrible tummy ache but nothing too bad. Thank you for your reply. I am also nervous about the injections and getting it all right! I have been sat looking through all the many boxes of needles and meds today and still feeling confused but asked for a call with my clinic tomorrow just for a final check that I’m understanding what to do. Really appreciate you replying x

Definitely keep a tick sheet so you know what you have had each day - I was always worried I'd forget something or not remember whether I gave it to myself (I do this with my asthma inhaler all the flipping time!). xx

Hi lovely, I was on various different meds for each cycle, but I have been on Buserelin and Menopur. I didn't really get any side affects except feeling really tired but you're body is working hard at growing follicles so it's hardly surprising!xx

Hello Ruby I’m doing my first cycle at the moment on a long protocol. I’ve been on buserlin for about 3 weeks now and 7 days on ovaleap. I found the buserlin ok but tiring. The ovaleap has given me headaches which go with paracetamol and I’m also extra tired by the evenings and a real brain fog. I’ve also found, which I wasn’t expecting, to have terrible wind! At least think it’s the meds!

Thank you. I’m on day 6 of Buserelin now and just started to feel tired and a bit teary. I also had a night sweat last night which I’m guessing is a side effect but might be unrelated. Have another 2 weeks to go before I can start Ovaleap x

With Buserelin I had headaches and hot flushes at night. No real side effects with Menopur except for bloating. Wishing you every success with your cycle! Xx
