Hello, I went in to have my fresh transfer today (3rd round of IVF) and felt optimistic as had 16 eggs collected, 12 mature, 8 fertilised, then 5 still going on day 3, but then the embryologist said we have one blasto, but it's too early to grade it! Two others might go to blasto tomorrow. The news took me by surprise as I thought at least they would be able to grade it (I know "average" embryos can still make it).
Unfortunately, I was told that the sperm wasn't great again - abnormal sperm morphology. I become completely overwhelmed with emotion as deep down know that this egg collection was our last (we have taken advice from a nutritionist and both go to acupuncture so I really don't know what else we can do). I decided to have 2 embryos transferred and praying that one sticks. I'm sorry to sound negative, it's just these clinics get so caught up in gradings / poor language that you often come out feeling worse then when you entered, even though I have 2 little embryos on board.
Has anyone had success with their embryo even though it was graded?

I’m so sorry you’ve come away from your transfer not feeling positive. Just wanted to say that grades aren’t everything, all of them can make babies. My clinic don’t actually give you the grades unless you specifically ask for them for these exact reasons!

It’s so hard, because even through all of the positives we always focus on the one negative point. But you’ve made it to transfer! They wouldn’t bother even getting that far if they didn’t think it would form a viable pregnancy. You’ve got this 💪🏼 Xxx
Think of all the 3-day transfers before there was the technology to take them to 5 days and which resulted in babies. Thousands and thousands of babies... best of luck, hope you've got a sticky one in there xxx
Just wanted to say good luck lovely 💕 I believe any embryo that’s good enough to transfer has a chance. My clinic doesn’t grade the only thing they told me was they were good quality. My outlook on this fet cycle is it will either stick or it won’t. Might sound harsh but I can’t think any other way. This is our last embryo xx everything crossed for you 🤞🏼💕
We had 'perfect' embryo transferred earlier this year and it ended in a chemical. The embryologist meant well but went on about how great it was so I think we assumed it was all going to work out from the BFP and then losing it was a real shock. Also it made us feel like we'd lost our best chance and maybe wouldn't get such a good one again so what chance did we have if even the best one didn't work.
The NHS waits even for FETs was too long so we did a private round - our clinic has a policy of not telling you the grading (or much at all really - literally just the numbers still there at day X). Did one fresh transfer but again was a chemical. Then had a FET and that one stuck. I'm guessing that maybe the one that was transferred first was better quality as I think they do the best ones first if there's a difference but no idea. I feel now like knowing the grade first time was actually not that helpful and probably the quality of what it was at a few days in didn't make a difference in the end.
Wishing you luck that yours stick and personally I wouldn't dwell on the grading or lack of - they're good enough to have gotten this far so there's every chance 🍀

I hope everything goes in your favour. Never had grading until my last one and even then it's wasn't good but he is here. I wouldn't worry too much, it's what happens after that matters. All the best
Hi, I've had 4 early blastocysts that they couldn't grade. My doctor said they could be slow growers and the quality looked good, so they transferred. 1 didn't make the thaw. The others didn't stick, but I've now found out I have an implantation issue, so the fact they didn't work is mute. Certainly the doctor was happy to transfer. I did wonder whether assisted hatching would help in this situation, but couldn't get an answer on that.
Regarding the sperm, have you had your partners DHEA levels checked? Some people have had success after a course of DHEA, but it's not for everyone.
That’s interesting to hear, I do wish they give the choice on knowing about grades. My husband had a bunch of tests in the summer including comet that came back ok but I know each batch of sperm differs. We haven’t looked at DHEA, I’ll take a look. Thank you x
Jumping in... and make sure he's not been ill - even a cold - in the 2-3months before. It sounds so trivial but we were told on the day of collection that my husband's sample was poor when it had always been great and we had to do ICSI (hadn't planned to). Fertilization was pretty bad and although we got two blats from 9 eggs, the next round we got all to blasts. The consultant said just a small illness can do that and I wish we'd known as we might have delayed the first round as it's so hard on your body for something like that to have such an impact. x
I’ve not been in this situation so not really sure what to tell you but I’m sorry to hear you are in this situation and just remember that there are positive stories out there and you need to be positive and a good mindset is way better than any grading xx
