Has anyone’s embryos not made it to day 5 but made it to day 6? xxx
Hi Jade. A Day 3 embryo takes a little longer to implant. Were you told to test so early? If not, keep up with any prescribed medication and test on the day recommended by your clinic. Diane
No they haven’t transferred, yesterday was day 5 they didn’t make it to day 5 but today’s day 6 they’re going to check again and call me. But when they called on day 3 they said they was at grade 1 which is the best so I don’t understand how they haven’t made it to day 5? I’m hoping they’ve grown overnight and I can get transfer today xxx
Its not unusual for them not to have developed to blastocysts by day 5. I had a number of day 6 blasts - as well as day 5 blasts. Two tested PGS normal - out of the two, one was a day 6. Whereas 3 of my day 5 ones were abnormal or mosaic.
I haven't transferred it yet, but its a very decent shot (according to my consultant).
We had o e that slowed and on day 5 they said it had restarted dividing and would review it a day later for freezing. Its not uncommon. We were lucky though and had 2 embyos to transfer still on day 5.
On my last cycle we only had one embryo make it to day 5, and when I say make it to day 5, it was by the skin of their teeth. It was graded a 1BB and the odds weren’t looking great. Transfer was on a Saturday so there was no way of growing further, and my clinic don’t grow past day 5 anyway, even though others give more time and go to day 6. If it had an extra day it would probably have been much further on. I’m currently 10 weeks pregnant from that little embryo. It’s measured slightly behind on each of my scans so far (1 clinic, 1 private and 1 EPAU) but seems to be catching up. Some are just a bit slow to get going. I’ll keep everything crossed for you that you have good news coming x
The last egg we have frozen is a day 6- they said it was slower growing than the others. I think there’s still a chance.
Those of mine that didn’t make day 5 certainly didn’t make day 6
They were planning a day 5 transfer for me. They rang early in the morning and said they had 2 very small early blastocysts that hadn't got to the stage where they ought to have been by Day 5 so they could grade them but they said they would transfer them that afternoon anyway. When I got to the theatre that afternoon and met the embryologist, she said they had continued growing and were looking better since that morning and one had now grown sufficiently for them to grade it so I am guessing that if we had been planning to test them or freeze them they would have suggested keeping them both until Day 6 when they called me that morning. Neither embryo that was transferred made it but I don't know if that was to do with implantation failure or because of embryo quality or chromosomal abnormality. Either way, the consultant told me that poor quality embryos don't result in poor quality babies and he has seen many low graded embryos become beautiful healthy babies so if it hasn't petered out by Day 6 and has made a blastocyst however small, early or poor quality, if it were me, I would have it transferred!
Do you mean didn’t make it to blastocyst by day 5? If so I had 2 like that that have been frozen on day 6 as they made it to blastocyst or the correct development stage to be frozen when they gave them the extra day but wouldn’t have been good enough on day. They weren’t as good a grading as my day 5s but I’m not sure that matters as my worst day 5 embryo was the successful one when the ‘perfect’ embryos failed to implant. Wishing you luck xx
I had 2 embryos this cycle that didnt make it on day 5 and then got frozen on day 6. Graded Day 6 5AA and day 6 5BB
I had the day 6 5AA transferred on Friday 😬xx
