AMH 4.9 IVF Chances, 37 Years old

Hi everyone, I’ve recently had a failed fresh embryo transfer which was devastating. I’m 37 and we’ve been TTC for >2 years. Our IVF protocol started better than expected and they collected 10 eggs, 8 were mature and 4 made it to blastocyst. I’m terrified to go through another IVF cycle only to end in failure. At my age with my AMH being 4.9 is there any chance of one of them being viable? PGT testing wasn’t recommended by my consultant due to the current HFEA advice. Thanks for your feedback Xx

Hello, I wanted to say that I really relate to that fear of doing more IVF/transfers and facing the heartache if the fail. I also think 4 use-able blastocysts is a really good outcome, and my understanding is that at 37 each of those embryos has a really decent chance of implanting. As I understand it lower AMH doesn't suggest your eggs/embryos are lower quality, it just suggests perhaps there are less eggs available, but in your case you got a really nice number of eggs and 4 blastocysts. Wishing you all the luck in the world.

If you find stats helpful (I get a bit obsessed with them, which can be a mixed blessing!) the HFEA website has information about the success rates at each clinic, in different age groups, per embryo transferred.

I just had a quick look now (told you, I'm obsessed with stats!) and the HFEA site says 'in 2018, birth rates per embryo transferred were 25% for patients aged 35-37', so with 4 blastocyst embryos already you've got a brilliant chance of your beautiful baby coming along.

Thank you so much ❤️ I’m definitely having a bad day today in terms of self doubt, your comments have really helped so thank you. It really knocks everything infertility, self confidence, esteem, happiness.. everything..! I woke up this morning feeling devastated that I may never make my partner a father.. he’d be such an amazing dad 😭 I’m sure you’re not having an easy time of it either, so thank you again for reaching out to support and encourage me ❤️ IVF women are amazing x x x

Hi Char2383.My Amh at my first clinic was 5.4. They put me on the long protocol and I got 11 eggs, 10 mature and 9 fertilised.

I had 2 put back in July last year and 1 frozen. None of them implanted for me.

This year we decided to move clinics and my Amh was tested and came back at 13.9 🤷‍♀️. They told me that the fact I got 11 eggs the first time round suggests that my Amh at my old clinic was wrong. My new clinic changed my drug level and I got 15 eggs, 13 mature and fertilised. I had 2 back in April and I am currently 11 weeks pregnant. I also have 6 in the freezer. I am also 37 yrs old.

You seem to have good numbers too so it may be worth getting your Amh restested. I had the highest dose of drugs the first time round and that can affect egg quality. This time round i had a lower dose and got better eggs. Might be worth asking the question x x

Thank you so much for your reply, that’s so interesting! So much emphasis is put on AMH and I’ve heard other people say that it fluctuates a lot.. Huge congratulations on your pregnancy 😊 Take care xxx

Hi FoxKinder, could you please share how many units you received with the lower dose? I’m also considering to ask for a lower dose as I read it can impact egg quality

I don’t know about ivf but at 39 my Amh was 3.4pmol I had 3 mc before testing then another 2 chemical pregnancies after, at 40 in conceived again naturally and I’ve just had my baby at 41 and he’s perfect.

Hi I had an amh 3.8 3 years ago I look a lot of vitamins along with raspberry leaf tea I had ovulation tracking & found my lining was an issue on top on low amh.... I had a lining of 7.8 prior to ovulation which shrunk back to 5.6 where the nurse told me I had no chance......

That same month I fell pregnant & now nearly 20 weeks. the following medications, Estrogen, Progynova 10mg and Trental-Pentoxyfylline I read about which have great increases in linings thickening. This is what I was going to ask for may be worth seeing what your lining is too xx

Thanks for your reply Gemz, really appreciate it :) My doctor has always said my lining is good so that’s one thing I haven’t worried about! We’re doing a different protocol this time so we’ll see.. Congratulations on your pregnancy 😍 it gives me hope, wishing you all the best x x

You got a great number of eggs too👍🏼 I only had 3 when I did ivf... I just didn’t react well to the medication at all. So I begged them for a much lighter approach of ovulation induction & folicule tracking (I took a lot of vitamins on top) & managed to eventually get pessaries which I believed really helped. I was so stressed about amh.... but our little miracle is growing strong..... it will happen 😊 xx

What is that recommendation ?

Hi, here is what the HFEA advice says: ‘PGT-A for day five embryos is rated red because there is no evidence from randomised controlled trials (RCTs) to show that it is effective at improving the chances of having a baby for most fertility patients.’

It’s a really good resource for evidence based research, here is the link hfea.gov.uk/

Wishing you all the best :)✨
