Early pregnancy scan ( After IVF)

Hi everyone, I want some advice about the pregnancy scan.

I am in the UK, I just found out that I am 4weeks pregnant. My first scan at my clinic is when I am about 7-8weeks. I know the scan at clinic is early scan but I am thinking of having another scan before 7 weeks at a different clinic. Do you think it is worth to do it or do you think I should wait until my scan at clinic? Has anyone had 5-6 weeks early scan? I think I want a reassurance..

One more question, my clinic doesn't do a blood test to check HCG level as covid situation. I was told that maybe GP can do that for me but do you think it is better to have it or it doesn't matter?

Thanks in advance xx

Hi Ome. Lovely to hear tht you are pregnant. I must admit I preffer scans being done at 7 weeks, as you will definitely see the little heartbeat. Often seen at the 6 weeks scan too, but just to be sure. I can fully understand your anxiety, so it's up to you to decide whether you want an extra scan. Most GPs don't do the beta hCG blood test now, they rely on urine and scans. You could ask your GP's opinion, to put your mind at rest. Hope all continuesa as it should. Diane

Hi, Diane, thanks for your reply. I see, so 7 weeks is better than 5-6 weeks scan. I was worried if the sac is in right place or not, but as you said I'll wait until 7 weeks. And I didn't know that GPs might not do HCG blood test. Thank you for your all advice, it helped a lot. Ome x

I see a lot of people on here freaking out because they had a 6 week scan and saw no heartbeat.... Then had one at 7 weeks and all was fine. I wouldn't go for an early one if I were you- you risk causing yourself unnecessary pain and heartbreak, when everything could actually be just fine.

Oh really... I didn't know that! What you said is very true.. I am a very worrier person so it might be better until 7 weeks patiently.. Thanks for your opinion!! helpful x

I agree, I absolutely wouldn't bother. I have had 5 week scans several times and its never been conclusive and has just led to more worry than comfort x

Oh you had 5 weeks scans! What could you see at the scans around that time? Like you said that it might lead to worry than comfort, I don't want that.. just need to be patient!! Thank you xx

Hi ❤️ I wouldn't. I did that and no heartbeat so it was a waste of time and money and the stress was unreal! I went 7 weeks in thr clinic and there was the heartbeat ❤️. I know it's hard to wait but it's def better x

Thank you for your message. I see.. I felt like that I had to go to see a doctor asap so was panicking a bit, but like you said, I will wait for 7 weeks and hopefully I can hear strong heartbeat. x thank you so much! x

Like everyone else says, save your money - you have a BFP, that’s all you need at the moment.

At the 7 week scan I saw a string heartbeat and heard it at well. I needed another one at 9 weeks again saw a good heartbeat.

Like everyone else says you won’t see anything before 6 weeks

thank you for your message. It's true.. scans aren't cheap! I am so glad to ask you ladies about this, otherwise I would have been to a doctor very early stage. .thank you x

My local ultrasound clinic won’t do scans before 6.5 weeks as they say it’s unlikely to see heartbeat. Had my first ever 7 week scan on Friday and it was incredible to see a little heart beating 💗 Best of luck with it 🤞🏼 xx

Don’t stress yourself.. I did early scan and frequent hcg tests.. none of them tell you if pregnancy is viable... just stay relaxed and do the week 7 scan that’s when you can hear heartbeat and feel happy... all the best xxx

If you want to test hcg you can order finger prick tests online via medichecks. I did this and it really helped my anxiety. I also did an early private scan at 6weeks and did see my first heartbeat (after 2 previous losses showing just a sac at 6 weeks). Hope all goes well for you xx

Most GPS won’t do hcg testing unless there is a medical need - like if a pregnancy test was inclusive. Reason being one test isn’t going to tell you anything, even 2-3 tests won’t tell you for sure that the pregnancy is viable

Even with my history Of ruptured ectopics the earliest scan I got was 6w1d with an EPU - I did see heartbeats for both my twins though at that scan
