High oestrogen levels?! Advice needed...

I’ve just had a phone call from the clinic. I have my final scan on monday after stims, before egg retrieval on Wednesday. My lovely nurse advised me that if my oestrogen levels are too high they may advise that they freeze the embryos and have a FET next month. Why? How?

I’d rather wait a month rather than go into a fresh cycle thinking it’s not likely to work?!

Why are my oestrogen levels high this time?

This is all such hard work 😓 I wasn’t prepared for this on a Saturday afternoon

They do this if worried about OHSS. They have been especially antsy about it during the pandemic as HFEA told them it was not acceptable to let anyone go through OHSS while the NHS was getting slammed. So, many clinics have been more cautious about OHSS, hence measuring oestrogen even when there would likely be minimal risk. The higher the oestrogen, the greater the risk of OHSS. Doing a freeze all massively lowers the risk of OHSS to almost nothing. Xx

From what I gathered I was very borderline and she just called to prepare me incase they opt for it as my usual nurse consultant will not be there Monday. I don’t know if it would be better to just suggest freezing all as i feel this round won’t work now 😖

Hi lovely, unfortunately sometimes our hormone levels rise to soon when using stims and that means that they will be too advanced for transfer. They have to be just right and if they are out of balance then it’s better to freeze them and then do a frozen transfer the next month xx

That’s what I’m think tbh! Now that it’s sunk in I’m kind of hoping that is the case as I feel this round is doomed now and it’s not worth the heart ache. I’d rather be mentally prepared. Would I be able to do a FET after my next period in 3 weeks do you reckon?x

Normally yes. It depends on your clinic though. Fingers crossed it won’t come to that xx

I had mild ohss and it was horrible 🤢 In my opinion my clinic were not cautious enough and we’re going to transfer anyway, but none of my embryos made it to day 5.

I suppose it’s just all a game of odds and what will be will be xx

My oestrogen was high so for my last 2 days of stims I had to reduce my dosage. They did a fresh transfer and it was successful, so try not to lose hope just yet.

I had that happen to me a couple of times. I opted to do all freeze to be safe x

Hello, I had it in my second transfer and was in tears as felt so ready otherwise. The consultant said it can happen and we need to wait for another cycle and do a blood test again. I used a lot of meditation over the month and tried to focus on the positive, just one month. The next cycle had normal results and resulted in bfp so glad they didn’t want me to try that month as I would have lost a good embryo. Good luck and I know it feels like another hurdle but try to think of it as it’s nothing you can do and it will improve next cycle so it’s not as bad as the whole infertility.

Just a little update incase anyone interested in the thread. I had my bloods taken again today and the clinic are happy to go ahead with the fresh transfer. Fingers crossed with get some lovely little embryos from our retrieval on Wednesday 🤞 thank you all xx

I’m glad they’re still doing egg collection!

In my second cycle - I had high levels and they “coasted” me because they didn’t want to do egg collection.

Their reason was because they didn’t want to put pressure on the nhs incase I got OHSS. I was so mad. I ended up with a failed cycle because my eggs were terrible as the coasting basically ruined them!

Xx

I’m slightly worried about what quality my eggs will be once retrieved. Do you think i should prepare for bad news?xx

No don’t be worried at all. I was coasted for 5 days and that’s why I had bad news. They’ve done egg collection at the right time xx
