Does diet effect whether embryo implants during IVF treatment

We have been trying to conceive for over 5 years and it has been a very long and difficult process. I am 28, have a BMI near 40 and I’ve got pcos. I was only referred last year for clomid and I’ve had 9 months of it and I was unsuccessful. We have decided to go private to do the IVF procedure and I’m just seeing if there anyone in a similar situation or has had a successful Ivf process with high BMI. I was also interested to know if high sugar levels can affect how well the embryo implants?

High BMI is well known to affect fertility hence why the NHS has a cut off of around 35 I think? My experience - whilst I didn’t have a high BMI was that I had 3 failed transfers. I then lost 1/2 a stone during lockdown to bring my BMI to the recommended level Of 28 and I was successful (with twins!) on the next transfer

Hi hun... it’s a tough journey, and we’re all here to help each other. Yes indeed, we are what we eat. Sugar causes inflammation. Inflammation causes disease. High inflammation can stop the embryo implanting. Diet plays a vital role in fertility, so to maximise our chances, and give our babies the best start in life (correct brain development) we need to optimise nutrition and reduce inflammation.

There are many posts on here from lots of us who have had high inflammation/ cytokine levels too high which trigger the natural killer cells....The good thing we can reduce inflammation naturally with diet, supplements, exercise, mindfulness etc...and books to read to help. Dr Alan Beer’s book “is your body baby friendly” is a great place to start.

What’s so wonderful is that many of us who cleaned up our lifestyle for IVF have now made it a good lifestyle choice, which hopefully means we’ll live longer healthier lives 😘

I was on a anti inflammatory diet for 6 month prior to my cycle and up to 11 weeks for pregnancy. I lost 25 pounds from eating healthy. Give it a try
