I had my baseline scan today, they had difficulty finding my ovaries. They said they were high, particularly my left ovary. They told me that if this do not drop then the needle used for egg collection would not reach them. Am not worried as this said hopefully they will drop when they start growing follicles. If not, they would have to push them down in theatre. Has this happened to anyone? Apart from that, my lining was great and I have started egg simulation tonight.

Ovaries too high for egg collection
Hi, I had my 2nd stims scan today and my left ovary is high too (a little lower than it was at the first scan which is good!) - apparently it’s quite normal and to do with your bowel. I’ve been given citrafleet to take on Monday (a laxative 🤣) and apparently that can aid collection from the high ovary. We’re scheduled for collection on Tuesday 😬🍳 Hope everything else is going well for you xx
I had a wandering ovary that was sat on my uterus & the doc thought they might struggle to get eggs out but it had moved by egg collection day and all fine. Fingers crossed for you. X
Thank you for commenting, this makes me feel better x
Hello. My ovaries sit a bit high and I had a couple of scans where one initially couldn’t be seen. The nurse pressing down on the abdomen (quite hard during the scan!) made it pop into view on the screen. Both times when the view was obscured was when I had been slightly constipated, so likely the comment above, it was related to the bowel position. The medication can cause that too. So drink plenty water and I would suggest a small glass of prune juice now and again (or at least the day or 2 before your scan)!
There was difficulty reaching both of my ovaries at EC and I was told afterwards that they got 2 others to press down on me whilst flushing the ovaries. Obviously I had no idea during the procedure itself but it explained the tenderness afterwards. It is something which the doctors and nurses are used to doing/seeing and they always do their very best to reach those ovaries that sit a bit high.
I think they have to warn you that it is possible that the ovaries might not be reached as part of the prior discussion/preparation if they feel there is even a very small chance if that being the case. I hope that helps. Good luck x x x
Hello, I too have a high right ovary which for many scans I never usually see, as it is that awkward. I have had two egg retrieval’s, both times I was given a laxative to ensure my bowel was empty as this helps them to get a better chance of getting to the ovary. I have very low AMH and never many eggs and typically my right ovary is the dominant one always with my better quality eggs, so always vital for them to get to it. Anyway on my first EC with the laxatives I also did several star jumps the morning of and then just before my EC. As silly as it seems I think it helped move my right ovary down, as they managed to collect from both sides all my eggs. My second time I had the laxative again but forgot the star jumps and it was a far more painful procedure involving one of the consultants literally being on top of me with their body weight to try move my ovary, despite being on pain medication at the time I could feel everything and was in a lot of pain. So my top tip would be star jumps ! I’m due my third EC in a few months and I’m definitely going to remember this and also ask for more knock me out drugs !
Very best of luck to you, don’t worry, they are always very determined to get all of them and I do believe, even with the awkward ovaries like ours, they manage to succeed. 😊🤞🏻⭐️
Wow! I never heard of this, as if it isn’t already hard enough! Try not to worry, they will have a solution. All the best x
Hi this has happened to me and each time it does drop down. The other thing to consider is acupuncture as it helps with the blood flow.
