Stopping Progesterone at 12 weeks with subchorionic hematoma

Hi everyone,

I am currently 11+1 weeks pregnant and I was told by my clinic to stop my progesterone medications (2xCyclogest + 1 Lubion daily) at week 12.

I’m quite anxious to stop cold turkey since I also have a large subchorionic hematoma that has not shrunk since it was discovered at week 7.

I also had a previous miscarriage, so I am naturally more anxious about everything.

Has anyone here stopped all progesterone medications at week 12 despite having a subchorionic hematoma?

Many thanks in advance for your responses!

I was in a similar situation-Had a SCH discovered at a scan (around 9 weeks) after some bleeding, was still visible at my 12 week scan. I kind of weaned myself off the meds rather than went cold turkey but that was my own decision. By my 16 week gender scan the SCH had been reabsorbed by my body. Hope this helps ❤️

Thanks for responding ❤️ glad to hear that your SCH has resolved 🙂did you start weaning off at week 12 or before that?

I think I started to halve my doses from around 10.5 weeks.

Me 🙋🏻‍♀️ I was terrified to stop especially because of the SCH so for a day or two I still used one pessary but it was all absolutely fine I’m in week 20 now! It’s actually a huge relief to not have the mess and the symptoms from it with all the other symptoms you probably have going on now ☺️ Clinic told me 12 weeks is well past when we need them and placenta has taken over for a few weeks by then so we’ve already had a couple of ‘extra’ weeks on the progesterone by week 12 and not to worry 🤗 xxx

Hi Ws29, when i was expecting my son in 2019 i too had a subchorionic hematoma at 7 weeks which thankfully disappeared by 9.5 weeks. Its common practice to stop progesterone at week 12, however with my son i did have some cyclogest left over from another cycle about a week and half worth and so i stepped down the cyclogest slowly over a that week. I also had a private progesterone test when i completely stopped to check my levels were ok and they were. You could mention your anxieties to your clinic and see if they will give you another weeks worth. If they agree i can send you my step down plan, ( note i was on 400mg x twice daily totalling 800 in total) i basically cut the evening one in half for a few days whilst still continiuning with the morning one ( totalling 600 for the day) then after a few days more the morning one in half and the evening one in half ( 400 total for the day) and then after a few more days just half of morning one ( 200 total for the day) then after 2 days of this stopped. Like yourself, i didn't want to just go cold turkey. I read somewhere from a Dr online that all women don't need extra progesterone support once you hit 14 weeks as the placenta is fully capable of producing all the progesterone it needs by then. Good luck xx
