Period after failed IVF

Hey 👋

After my failed round of IVF I had my first bleed, bit heavier but on time and normal.

I am due my 2nd period on Saturday but wondering if it will actually come then and if I should expect my cycle to return to normal?

No sign of it yet or any symptoms which is unusual for me..I can already feel the anxiety building of ‘maybe against all odds possible’ I could be pregnant (completely irrational but we always have that little hope we’ll be one the miracles ay!) so yeah be good to know if I’m likely to be delayed and out of sync because of the IVF by second period so I can put that little bit of hope out of my mind. Hey, I could have wrote this myself, AF is due tomorrow and I usually have around 3/4 days of spotting and nothing!

Am desperately waiting so I can have my FET this month.

Would love to see what others say about their experience x

Same here! I’m desperate for my period to arrive after egg collection on 2nd Sep (freeze all) so I can have an FET this month but no signs yet! x

The waiting is a killer!! I can’t even bring myself to work out a potential transfer date atm x

I had collection on 1st sept! Which is why we’re in sync! No embryos for us unfortunately. Good luck for your transfer! 😘

Thank you. I’m so sorry to hear that you didn’t get any embryos. I hope you have more success with ICSI (that’s what’s we’ve had to do too) xx

I’m the same normally spotting by now! I just want to get it so I can ring clinic and book in for my next cycle! Good luck for your transfer 😘

My first period after both fresh transfers (chemical pregnancy) were very light surprisingly. My second period came as usual as normal, no delays or anything like that, usual bleed also. Our ovaries unfortunately are not fully recovered as I had a scan so they were still enlarged but everything else looked normal.

Hi Strawberriesandcream. I'm afraid it can take up to 3 cycles to return to what is normal for you, so hang on in there, your hormones will sort you out. Diane

Did yours arrive? My period came bang on to indicate failed IVF transfer, but my second period after the IVF is now 90 days late.

Yes it did come, can’t remember how late it was in the end. My goodness you must be so frustrated with 90 days late! Have you spoken to your clinic?

Yeah, I wrote to them at around 50 days and 60 days. They are abroad. They recommended I go and have a scan but they didn’t suggest what the scan is for and I haven’t yet asked. My cycle was bang on regular before the ivf! It’s tricky cos of COVID to go and see a doctor. For first time since before ivf, I’ve got tender boobs so I’m wondering if period if finally going to arrive soon. I also had daily spotting for around the first 60 days, so at least that has stopped. Good to hear yours finally came back.

I feel it’s important I let others know the end of my story. Despite a period bang on two weeks after my ivf, and two negative pregnancy tests, I am now lying in hospital after having had a week 17 ectopic pregnancy and tube removed. If your second period doesn’t arrive ladies, don’t assume it’s just messed up by the ivf meds, as you may be unknowingly pregnant, like I clearly was. The period I speak of was same as my usual period: came bang on time, lasted 4-5 days like usual, except maybe slightly heavier. It was not implantation bleeding. The doctors are all somewhat baffled and in disbelief by my dates and my background story to get to this point. They all assumed I had had unprotected sex since my ivf - but I didn’t - I was in covid lockdown not leaving my parents house.

My first fresh cycle ended by AF arriving bang on time, didn’t even make it to test date! But then next month, my period was 5/6 days late which is unusual for me as I have a regular cycle. So it is possible your body is just taking its time returning to its usual rhythm!
