Only 3 follicles on day 8

Hi everyone I am 41 years old I am on my 8 day of my injections today I had my ultrasound and it showed I only have 3 follicles 12 mm and 8mm my doctor increased my med and told me to come back in 2 days I was wondering if I can grow more follicles

Hey, are you doing IVF or IUI?

If it is IUI then 3 is the perfect amount. Any more and you are over stimulated and they won’t proceed. I had 3 at 17mm on day 11. I drank full fat milk for a week, two pints a day as it apparently helps and also folic acid. There are some prenatal vitamins you can try too. Good luck xx

I’d say at this point it’s unlikely you’ll grow more and you Wouldn’t want to anyway as there would be such a difference in size that it’s unlikely that they would contain a mature egg and it would just get your hopes up. I’d concentrate on the ones you have being the best quality you can - lots of Protein, milk etc

I’m currently pregnant with the embryos from my lowest cycle in terms of follicle numbers - I’ve done 5 rounds and on my 4th one I only had 2 follicles and these were the best quality by far.

Quality over quantity is much more important

You may have a few more follicles when you scan again as they only count the follicles that are 10mm or above. I’m 41 and collected 3 follicles this cycle and felt a little disappointed however all 3 fertilized and were all great quality! I’m 41 too so it’s definitely quality over quantity that you want to focus on. Good luck!

I definitely agree quality over quantity is more important. I’m 36 with very low AMH and on my second round of IVF. On day 8 I had 4 follicles a 13 on my right, 6, 8 & 8 on my left. I worried as on my last IVF cycle at day 8 they had been bigger. Day 10 was on Friday and some had grown and also discovered another one on my right. I had 15 & 17 on my right and an 11 on my left, plus two small ones that hadn’t grown. I’m keeping everything crossed that those three keep growing together (I’ve even not given up hope on the tiny too, that they’ll have a growth spurt over the weekend, I realise v unlikely but no harm in believing). I’ve been doing reflexology points to help stimulate them along with the drugs (my reflexology taught me, seen were not allowed sessions due to covid). Also eating a handful of good nuts (walnuts/almonds/Brazil) a day, plenty water, milk, a little 85% coco chocolate and general eating the good foods. On my first IVF (after 6 failed IUI) I only ever had 4 follicles and on some scans only showed 3. When they took them out, I ended with 5 eggs, all which fertilised and made 5 day blastocysts. 1 back in and I was pregnant, but sadly had an cervical ectopic (so had to be ended), and 1 embryo frozen. We decided to try another round before using our frostie, incase I’m close to menopause.

Having only a few follicles doesn’t mean it’s bad (but I know how you feel, as Ive wished for more), the quality of those few is what matters. As we all know it only takes the one to make a baby. Keep believing in your 3, like I am. (I even talk to mine 🙈).

Lol..I talk to mine too! I'm 37 with low amh too, they think 6 follicles in total. Egg collection Monday! Scared as first go. Also worried I've damaged the quality as had a storming argument with the hubby yesterday 😬😥 xx

Glad I’m not the only crazy one ☝️ 😂Good luck for egg collection on Monday, don’t worry you’ll be absolutely fine. I’m hoping my Monday scans shows they’ve grown and my EC hopefully Wednesday 🤞🏻. Don’t worry I’m sure your follicles will be very protected from your argument. I had a very stressful day after Wednesdays scan, couldn’t shift the stress but managed a more relaxed Thursday and Fridays scan was a positive.

I only had 2 decent follicles - but 2 eggs were retrieved, both fertilised & both were implanted. I was 42. I have a toddler son now so it’s definitely quality over quantity.

It's definitely quality over quantity!! Keep believing in your 3 follicles!! 😁

I had 5 small follicles on my first scan after 4 days of stims and I am also talking to mine, like some of the other girls do too, as they have some serious growing to do!! (glad I'm not on my own with that!! 🤣 Even husband is talking to them!!! 🤣)
