Is it safe to ship embryos from one clinic to another?

Hi all,

I'm looking to move some blastocysts from one London clinic to another London clinic. Has anyone had experience of doing this? Was it totally safe for the embryos?

Thanks in advance!

We’ve moved both embryos and sperm and it’s been totally fine! You obviously need to use a specialist company to do it, our clinic did say they’d lend us the equipment to do it ourselves but we weren’t willing to take the risk! The clinic will have a list of couriers they use that they can share with you so you can get prices. It’s quite a lengthy process as you can imagine there is a lot of paperwork but it’s totally fine. PM if you need more info! xx

Of course! Anytime! We’ve done it twice (sperm from NHS hospital and embryo from previous clinic!) Xx

on a pricelisit for a private clinic i may look into after round one it says transfers in cost is 0 so I presume the clinics do it for you?

Clinics do not do it for you. Price will be listed as 0 because it’s not a service the clinic offers.

We shipped 2 blasts from Edinburgh to Bristol this year, it was managed by a private company (happy to share the details with you if you would like them) and the whole process was really easy! It cost £500 - might be cheaper if only moving within London due to less distance.

Best of luck with everything Peanutchips! Xx

Thank you so much JoP32! Yes, if you don’t min DM’ing me the private company you used, that would be really helpful. It would be great to know how long it took as well. Thank you xx

Of course, I’ll PM you in a bit.

It was pretty quick tbf, all sorted within a week. We we’re really worried it would be a massive ball ache and take ages but this company literally sorted everything out for us. All we had to do was sign a consent form etc and give them the contact details of both clinics, answer a few questions and tell them what day we wanted them collected, then boom! It all just happened!

I’ll dig out the details and get them across to you today - just going into some back to back Teams meetings so it might not be for a couple of hours but I’ll will send them! Xx
