Hysteroscopy D&C before FET?

Hi ladies,

I hope everyone is surviving the long wait. I am trying to keep myself sane by planning ahead for when our clinic opens. Another friend announced the birth of her beautiful daughter yesterday - I am happy for her, but it is truly heartbreaking.

Anyway, just have to grit my teeth and carry on.

I have been told to have a hysteroscopy D&C before my FET - has anyone had this? I was told it is not "a scratch" (I had this in March last year) and it will help implantation? Do I need to be sedated like EC?

Any experiences you can share?

Sending love to everyone at this difficult and often impossible time! xx

Hey Anna

Like you waiting for the clinic to reopen and last week my sister in law FaceTimed me to tell she is pregnant (again!). Like you I am happy for them but inside I just want it to my turn...

My doctor also said I should have a hysterscopy, I’ve had 2 chemical pregnancies, 3 excellent quality embryos implanted and nothing...

Can’t give you any advice unfortunately but I would also love to hear anyone else’s experiences....just saying hi and sending you some love ❤️ ❤️❤️

Thanks so much for reaching out....it is so, so hard. Emotions all over the place - torn between feeling guilty for not being happier for friends, but still so angry that we have to endure so much for (what should be) the easiest of things......

So sorry to hear about the chemical pregnancies. That must be so hard. Did you have your embryos PGS tested? xx

Oh I feel you Anna...first thing I did was look at my husband and say I am horrible person for not feeling that happy...☹️

We didn’t because we only had 4 eggs collected, 3 made it to blastocyst and my doctor suggested that if we had 8-10 then yes it’s worth PGS testing but with such a small number it’s not worth the cost.... Maybe on this next round we might go for as it’s got to be better than going through 3 sets of the dreaded 2 week wait!! Did you go for the PGS testing? Xx

Three blasts from four eggs is incredible!! That is a really promising sign.

I always have very few blasts - just one or two. This time our doctor insisted on PGS testing, so we agreed. We only tested a small number of blasts - I don't know anyone who has got 8 or 10 blasts?!

I think a lot depends on age - if you are under 35 they don't normally recommend it. Do you have low AMH or are you older than 35? I think the odds increase with PGS, so I think it is worth it xx

Oh really that is comforting to know...

My sister in law got 8 blasts! Fell pregnant on her first round and has just fallen pregnant naturally..so you can probably imagine why keep comparing myself as she was my only IVF buddy....but not anymore 😊😜

I am 36, PCOS, endometriosis and low AMH from memory it was 1.9 (our scales might be different here as I live in Dubai). Been TTC for 2 years...

Are you having recurrent implantation failure also? I do hope this hysterscopy will be helpful for us 🙏🏼Xx

I had this at the start of the year so that they could essentially stretch my cervix as it was so tight my first transfer attempt was stopped.

It’s a day surgery procedure, completely out, didn’t feel a thing, worst part was the grogginess for about 5 days after. Any questions, just ask! X

Thanks so much for the response, I always thought a D&C was for miscarriages so I was very confused when the doctor suggested this....since I have never seen two lines in my life....

Did you think it made an impact for you? xx

I was the same, I had treatment after an abnormal smear result so I was happy for them to do it and remove any scar tissue. I hadn’t heard of a D&C until my fertility troubles started and not having a miscarriage confused me.

I was told it would last a minimum of three months which is up this month and knowing my luck I will need another by the time the clinic is ready for me again. I don’t feel any different and haven’t had the chance to naturally try conceiving due to drugs in my system but don’t think that would make a difference because sperm is soooo tiny.

Why have you to have one? Xx

Thanks so much, this is super useful. I was told to have one as mandatory before my FET - I don't think there is a reason, just to help the embryo stick :) xx

Hi Anna

I had a hysterscopy with D&C last year in preparation for a fresh cycle not fet of ivf.

I sent you a pm detailing a lot more.

I know what you mean regarding them saying d&c as that's(usally) used for a miscariage because of the method and that's what I have heard it refferd to .

They can use that method for clearing the lining too though or for similar reasons.

I was put under GA (general anistetic)

For this which was much preferable for me.

I had had a hysterscopy a few years previously but minus the d&c. I was awake for this I don't think even sedated (nhs hospital) and it wasn't a pleasant experience.

The hysterscopy with d&c although more done during procedure, i found much better afterwards. Only mild discomfort and was home within around 4/5 hours of having it done. Had to come around from GA aswell.

Recovery time is recommended 6 weeks as they advise no sex with partner due to infection. Was personally recovered by around 3/4 weeks.

Hope this helps you and others reading this

Xx
