Coronavirus delaying IVF

Hey, I haven’t written on here for a while, a lots happened since I last did and we were hoping to start around round of IVF in March following a failed round in December, a no from the clinic in Jan and Feb because there wasn’t availability. I know there’s obviously a lot worse things going on at the moment but not having a date or even month to work towards is so deflating! Is anyone still starting treatment via private clinics in the UK at the moment or have they stopped as well?

We used up our free round in December so we’ve paid for this one but chose the NHS again and wanted really to see the same staff as last time as they were brilliant but considering private clinics now 🤷🏻‍♀️ any advice?

Hi Ariel,

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. The unknown element of being able to start again must be really frustrating 😢

Unfortunately you can’t start any new cycles in the UK, private or NHS. HFEA have instructed clinics to finish up any current cycles with a freeze all approach by 15th April and no new cycles are allowed to be started.

I hope for everyone involved that the wait to resume treatment isn’t too long x

That’s really informative, thank you! I thought for a second at least that saves us the decision of whether to have to pay double to go private or not but actually makes me really sad - that’s a lot of people who will be disappointed at perhaps the very last hurdle 😢

No ones fault I suppose, just with no end in sight and then the back log of everyone who will be waiting - just a terrible time for things like this isn’t it

Hi Ariel.. Unfortunately, most private clinics are being taken over by the NHS too. The earliest treatment cycle I have heard of being offered is mid June, but with no guarantee of the go ahead. Nurses are being deferred to NHS wards, and some are falling sick too. They are trying to conserve oxygen too, which is used in IVF. I'm afraid it is a wait and see situation. Thinking of you. Diane

Thank you for your response - all completely understandable just frustrating. I was thinking maybe September as the earliest so we’ll just wait and see but thank you!

Hi love. Sorry to hear your cycle has been delayed. Of course there are worse things going on the world (there always is) but that's no consolation when you're going through all this and desperately want to continue with treatment for your dream of getting pregnant. Unfortunately, private clinics have also stood down on new treatments, and we'll all we waiting a while. Lots of love xxx
