Fertility blood test

Hello all

So I've had my first set of blood tests for unexplained infertitily..one on day 4/5 of cycle and one on day 22...the ones on day 4/5 came back as normal and I just called the dcr for day 22 one and she said it just says suggests ovulation...? Lady was v off and not for explaining anymore...so will ask for a phone app with a dcr to explain and to see what next steps are...? But in the mean time can anyone help...! Just beginning the journey and all is a bit new to me...

The one you had at day 22 is to check that your progesterone levels have risen over 30 which confirms ovulation has happened! To be fair the receptionist probaby doesnt know herself properly what the levels mean. Hope that helps.xx

Ok thanks! So I'm hoping/presuming that saying suggests ovulation had happened is as good as confirmed? No that's true...I will ask for a phone app with dcr to discuss next steps....

Yes you levels wont rise if ovulation hasnt occured so ovulation confirmed!! After you ovulate the corpus luteum ( the follicle that produced the egg) produces progesterone hence why your levels rise to their highest (around day 21 if you have regular periods) to prepare your body for a fertilised egg implanting. If that doesnt happen then your levels drop and your period starts.xx

Agree with Cinderella. If it suggest ovulation in that month they think you ovulated. Are your cycles regular? Mine werent but bloodtest 21 day confirmed i ovulated. Nevertheless was put on 6 months clomid which regulated my periods but didnt result in pregnancy. X Wish you all the best on your journey ❤️

Hi, I would phone back and ask for the actual results (as in the levels of each hormone tested) then you can gain a better understanding.

I think 3 hormones are tested on the day 4/5 test which includes FSH and then progesterone on day 22.

Mine said normal but when I asked for the results it transpired that my FSH was higher than average x

I'd suggest this too. When I first started the process I would get a text saying 'your results are good' so took it they were but found out 3 months later the progesterone figure was only 12 which meant I probably hadn't ovulated! Very annoying. You ideally want over 30 as Cinderella5 mentioned.

I'd keep a journal with dates of tests, what they were for, the day off your cycle and the result. Hopefully your journey won't be that long but its really helpful knowing what your body is doing and can help you challenge any gp/consultants who sometimes are just trying to identify 100% infertility not issues that might impact your chances. Thank you! I will definitely be ringing for a phone app and ask her to explain more! Hoping to journey won't be to long...but I'm getting to the stage when I'm wondering if it ever will...starting to feel like I can't imagine ! Every month having regular ish sex taking clear blue ovulation tests...and always get hopeful...only to get af pains just before due then she makes an appearance....sure not giving up tho!
