Opinions on Clomiphene?

Due to the fact and I have Pcos and I don’t ovulate often, my gp referred me to a specialist. Looking at my blood tests, my husband’s semen result and the fact I got pregnant last year, he said it doesn’t look like I have a problem conceiving and it’s just due to ovulation not occurring every month. He mentioned they might give me Clomiphene. Did anyone try this and what’s your experience?

I was on this medication for 5 months, treatment was actually 6 months but because of the side effects I stopped after 5. I wasn’t successful but our reason is male factor as I ovulate normally.

It might work for you if you are not ovulating very often. Also note that OPK’s didn’t work for me in this 5 months, never showed me a positive 🤷‍♀️

Good luck and I hope that will work for you! 🍀🤞

Really? So how does it work? You just have to try throughout the whole month? 🥱

I’m not sure I will go for it, for now I just want to go so that I can hopefully get more tests done just in case something else comes up.

I suggest you to try, it can really work for you. First month you need to do few US, so the clinic will tell whether you are responding to the medication or not. I had only one follicle so I was like ovulating normally. For you it might be different because you have PCOS, also depends how many tables per day you need to take. I was taking from day 2 until day 7, only 5 days 2 per day. Second month I didn’t go to the clinic for US so I had to use OPK where my nightmare started. Never had a normal positive line. Until month 5 when I had to call the ambulance at home because I couldn’t move from my bed. Sorry I don’t want to scare you, but it is just better to be prepared.

Why you couldn’t move? I’m not familiar with side effects and I’m not a fan of meds in general. I think I will just go and see what happens. I’m doing a therapy now with acupuncture and herbs to help me ovulate and conceived naturally, it worked for me last year very soon but I miscarried. I’m sure I will not get an appointment for the specialist for a long time anyway, but at least I get things started and have a plan B.

It is always good to have a plan B, I like the way you think.

I had really bad cramps in my stomach that wasn’t going away for hours and a felling of being sick, no energy at all.

I think that’s more indicated if you don’t ovulate than for male factor. It sounds like it helps to ovulate more than 1 so the sperm has more chances... but that doesn’t cure the sperm itself 🤷🏻‍♀️ i don’t get it.

Sorry that it didn’t work for you and that you had to go through that for no reason...

Yes you are right is more if you don’t ovulate but they are stimulating you to get more follicles and automatically more eggs, wasn’t the case for me.

It worked for me as I wasn’t ovulating, took 4 months and the side effects are tough but I got pregnant! They should monitor you the first month with scans to see if it’s working and tell you when to have sex really and then I got blood tests for 3 months after the first month to see if I’d ovulated! Altho they weren’t accurate and said I hadn’t ovulated the 4th month but ended up pregnant 🤷🏼‍♀️! They can get it wrong if they don’t take your bloods on the right days but it is worth a shot! I know a few people who’ve got pregnant first time too! Xxx

Oh lovely! I remember your birth announcement, I hope all is well! Did you monitor with Opks? I’m waiting to hear if I got a job and if I do I don’t know how I will go to all the scans 🤦🏻‍♀️

Aw we are doing lovely thanks! He’s 16 weeks old already! Time flies! And I did get the clear blue ones that have a smiley face but I found they didn’t help much at all! After the last day of my clomid because you usually take it day 2-6 of your period I think, we just used to baby dance from then 3 times a week! And ahhh that tricky, my work were really good! I only needed one scan to check my follicles and they were good so didn’t have to go back for more! Maybe try to get blood forms so you can get your blood taken at the hospital or gp so it’s a bit easier! My fertility clinic was in a different town so was a bit tricky but I work at a hospital so could get my bloods done there and they’d be fine with that xxx

My clinic should be the hospital near home, I’m very lucky to live close by. I know what you mean by getting the forms, that way I can go any time that suits me but I’m not sure about the scan. Oh well, it takes what it takes!

My story is closer to Ranchu’s unfortunately.

I was due to do 6 rounds but only got to 4 before I had to stop. The first 2 I ovulated but didn’t result in a BFP. The 3rd I didn’t ovulate so they increased my dose for the 4th. No idea if I ovulated that time but I developed really bad side effects inc visual disturbances. It effected my eye sight (and with it my confidence and mental health!) really badly for the best part of a year when I came off it.

I’m not trying to scare you and of course it works no problem for some and is successful. I just really wish I’d known more about it before diving in as it was sold to me by my clinic as a really risk free, gentle drug. Obviously everyone reacts differently to meds but for me it was far from it and I wished I’d gone straight to IVF. Like I said just my experience and I think it’s a fairly rare one but it can happen xx

They would never offer my ivf, or at least not for a long time apparently. I will continue my herbal treatments and fingers crossed hopefully it will make me ovulate and get pregnant again without medications. Thank you for sharing your experience!
