Confused by opks

Advice please. My digital opk is giving a peak reading (solid smiley) meaning ovulation is imminent however when I do paper ones it says negative. I'm confused which one is right.

At the moment the paper ones are really feint lines. I know what it's supposed to look like as the only time I've ever had strong opk lines was when I was pregnant in November. Are the digital ones just unreliable? X

Hey Jessy,

The only times I’ve ever had positive opk’s have been on the clearblue digital you’ve got there. I could test the same urine with paper strips or even the cheaper clearblue ones and they’d be negative. My ovulation at those times was confirmed by blood tests because they were during clomid cycles so I’d be inclined to think your top one is correct and you’re ovulating now (or very soon). Good luck hun xx

Thank you. It's had me worried. I literally can only get positive opks when several weeks pregnant. Started to think there was something wrong with me. Like you I've had 21 day progesterone test to confirm ovulation. However my result was the lower end of normal. It was 32 and gp said it needed to be over 28. I think I'm just worrying something is wrong with me after my mmc x

Hi Jessy, I’ve tried a few brands of opks now, due to the fact that I have Pcos and my LH levels seem to be higher. When I used to do the Clearblue, it was giving me high flashing smile but never solid which means peak. Then I knew something was wrong and I went to gp, had bloods and scans and found out about the Polycystic ovaries. Anyway... I’m not using OvaView ones that I buy on Amazon. I find them very accurate. I can see how gradually the second line becomes darker day by day, when I ovulate the lines are very dark and look the same, that means ovulation is occurring. Normally if you have a solid smile the cheap ones should show 2 lines. Did you do them at the same time and with a full bladder (at least 4 hours wait)? Also, for me the tests are more accurate in the evening than with my first morning pee.

Are you trying to get pregnant again? If so, why not trying anyway 😅

Always trying to get pregnant 😂. Even though ivf is our only hope, trying can't hurt. I don't have pcos but have high amh. Wondering if my hormones are out despite the doctors saying there's absolutely nothing wrong with me.

I always use fmu so I'm baffled why the two tests are giving two very different results. Will keep trying the paper test strips in the meantime to make sure. There are very feint lines if you look closely but by all accounts that means negative supposedly. Starting third cycle ivf in a weeks time but it's just bugging me as I've never used both tests simultaneously before so this is the first time I've noticed the disparity x

Just a quick idea on the paper ones did you read instruction as to what wee to use? I’m using ovaview and it says not to use first morning wee- just wee from that day that’s been held for four hours so maybe that’s why they aren’t the same as the clear blue one 🤷🏻‍♀️

Really? I use OvaView and I’ve been testing morning and evening lol. So that’s why in the evening is always in the evening I get positives!

Yeah. I was bored and read the leaflet 😂. I’ve tried both and definitely afternoon/evening is better xx

I never had any luck with paper ovulation tests the only ones that worked for me was clearblue digital ovulation tests which only detect the Lh surge I couldn’t get on with the dual ones. I’d go with the clearblue ones they are reliable and baby dance tonight and tomorrow. 🙂

Also it is recommended not to use the 3 months post miscarriage which might explain the paper ones not showing Lh surge.

So sorry for your miscarriage xxx

Hi jess go with what is on digital hun. U got your LH surge 👍 . R u doing natural frozen cycle? Did u had your day 21 progesterone check? Anything over 30 indicates that u ovulate. Xx

Yes I've only had it tested once day 21 and it was 32. That was about 18 months ago. However, I was very underweight back then and my periods had only returned for about 10-12 months and although I was having regular periods this could explain why it was the lower end of normal? I'm thinking of having my day 21 progesterone repeated since I'm now about 2 stones heavier. Although every doctor tells me there's absolutely nothing wrong with me, my uterus, ovaries, lining, hormones etc I'm not convinced. I often wonder if that's why I've been pregnant before.

My rational side tells me I wasn't really that sexually active in my teens, my twenties and thirties too underweight to conceive and haven't really tried for a baby until the last year. Feeling so frustrated like I've left it too late x

The paper ones should be used late morning or early afternoon and ideally at least twice a day. Those paper ones you have suggest if you kept testing you would get your peak in next couple of days, but others swear by clearblue so maybe stick with that - either way get dtd! x
