Hi All,

I posted a couple of days ago that I got a BFP at 10dpt and the line looked pretty dark especially as I'd taken the test at 3pm in the afternoon, taken another test half an hour ago and the line seems lighter I'm really scared it's another chemical. Has this happened to anybody else and still had a positive outcome and is there anything I can do to save it?

I'm worried sick xx

I’ve had the exact same thing. Dark line a four days ago and now a much lighter one (almost not even there) . Second blood test tomorrow after the first being positive. 🤞

in reply to Kw91

It's so worrying isn't it, what were your levels from the blood test? Did the clinic advise anything eg.increasing progesterone?

It’s absolutely heartbreaking! I can’t remember my levels (I was just so shocked it was positive since I’d had quite heavy bleeding prior) but they didn’t suggest changing anything hormone wise. What about you?

in reply to Kw91

It really is heartbreaking, I have only taken the test half an hour ago so think I will give them a call, I have missed blood test booked in for Tues

Hey Claire, is it possible that your newer test today just hasn't had time to dry? In my experience with FRER they dry darker than when done. I've just had a look at your test from the other day and it looks lighter than on this one. Hugs, its flipping torture!xxx

in reply to Cinderella5

Morning, apologies for not messaging back last night I fell asleep very early due to waking up crazy early!! Do you mean the tip not having time to dry? The one from this morning isn't completely dry yet when I did the test Fri the line came up darker straight away but I will keep checking just incase. I'm not sure whether to ring the clinic to see if extra shots of progesterone will help or whether it's out of my hands?? Xxx

in reply to Cinderella5

I've just updated photo,it looks a little bit darker now,it may have been the lighting in my kitchen too but still don't think it is as dark as Fridays! Xxx

Try remain positive darling it’s still clear to see two lines so I’m praying it’s still a positive xxx

in reply to Noah1981

Thankyou it's just so hard when you've experienced it in the past isn't it,makes you even more anxious. I think I was just expecting to get a really dark line today! Xxx

Ok hunny we’ll hang in there your not out yet and I hope those hug levels are rising for you xxx

in reply to Noah1981

Thankyou Hun, I might ring the fertility scanning place that I go to to see if they can fit me in today for a blood test and test my progesterone levels xxx

Just incase of confusion I have updated the photo about 3 times this morning as the line does seem to have got a bit darker from when I initially posted so Cinders you could be right about FRER tests!! Xxx

You just have to remember the other one has had 2 days of darkening. And also the fact that when your levels are low and should be doubling every 48-72hrs they're not going up massively at the beginning!! What can I say I'm a crazy lady tester!🙈Got everything crossed for you. Ask the clinic about upping your meds, nothing to lose! Never be scared to ask them, you're paying a lot of money!! I think once you've had shit things happen to you, it just makes all of this an even bigger worry!🙄xxx

in reply to Cinderella5

Hahaha I would never have known that the tests get darker, it's the first time I've used FRER and it does seem to be darker than when I first did it.

I've pulled my blood test to tomorrow and again to Weds, the ladies at the place I go to for scans/bloods are so lovely and said to go by bloods not home tests. Been trying to ring the clinic but they aren't answering as yet xxx

I'm inclined to agree with hpt and serum hCG but once you start testing its flipping hard to stop!!😂🙈 I'm completely rooting for you!!🙌🏻xxx

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything is ok. There are so many things that affect the line...including how dilute your urine is which depends on what you drank yesterday...so comparing lines is not an exact science. And im a scientist deadlingv with diagnostic tests every day. You can only compare when all conditions are exact same which is almost impossible in the human body! For now...it's positive...you're pregnant and there's no reason to think that it shouldn't stay that way.....huge hugs...stay positive xxx

in reply to Tryagain45

Thankyou for the reassurance,it's great to have a response from a scientist 🙂 does it makes the IVF process easier or harder for you?? I can imagine you would be more logical and rational than me!!

I've pulled my blood test forward to tomorrow and will retest Weds so I can get an accurate response, also tried my clinic but they aren't answering yet,I think I would feel happier if I could up my progesterone.

I did today's test at 5.30am and Fridays at 3.30 in the afternoon so I would have thought this mornings will have been less dilute but as you say the human body conditions are not equal at differing times xxx

Being a scientist is good and bad...I understand an awful lot...but on the other hand I probably have too much info!! But believe me it doesn't make me any more rationale when it comes to the 2WW!! I thought it would, so on my first transfer I was taken aback when I turned into an irrational google addict!!!! I'm on my 4th transfer now, day 5 post transfer and I'm no better!!

I always try and remind myself that what will be will be...if this is the one, then it's the one and there's little I can do to change the outcome. Hopefully this is your ONE xx

Also, What progesterone are you on at the moment?

And great you getting bloods tomo x

in reply to Tryagain45

It's amazing what the 2ww does to a person's sanity and you are completely normal, I don't think any one of us hasn't had a Google frenzy! How are u feeling in yourself? Have the clinic changed anything this time around?

I'm taking 900mg Utrogestan as well as the usual along with 75mg aspirin and Intralipids.

I'll repeat the bloods on Weds to xx

Tryagain45 in reply to

I'm on a higher dose of steroids...and one extra cyclogest pessery and added on aspirin too. I'm on everything!!!

I'm doing ok...the first 4 or 5 days are the easiest I think...after that the doubt and worry sets in. I've been feeling rubbish for last 2 days. Was feeling amazing before transfer on steroids but even with them I'm feeling crap. I don't mind if it means things might work!! Ive done 3 months of acupunture which has really helped me feel well. And i had a hysteroscopy and d&c last month. They remived a polyp. So I've gone all out this time!!!! This is FET number 4 and my second donor. No embryos left in freezer.

How are you feeling? Xx

in reply to Tryagain45

I'm also on 20mg of Prednisone,I do get a bit concerned that it lowers your immune system,I completely avoid any ill people!!

I have been having reflexology,I wasn't sure which one to go for,did the acupuncturist give you any additional advice?

You can't do anymore than what you are doing, hopefully with all of your additional procedure this will be your time.

I'm feeling calmer than I did this morning but I just want the next few days out the way now, hurdle number 2!! It's our second donor and we have one in the freezer xx

I'm keeping everything crossed for you!!! Lets home time speeds up for the next few days!! Im back in work tomorow so I'll be distracted.

I had a combination of acupunture and reflexology which I found great. Made me feel energetic and positive. He didn't give me any extra advise but my reflexoligist runs a fertility support clinic. So she had loads of advice!! Diet, supplements, keeping feet and womb warm!! I've done it all! I'm nearly 46 so time is against me too!!

Keep me posted on your bloods tomo...best of luck!! Xx

🙏🤞 everything crossed for you xxx

It happened to me on my last cycle, the one where I got my daughter. It was earlier though, I got a positive frer on 6dp and on day 7 it was noticeably lighter. I even did a post as I was convinced I was having a chemical. I was understandably upset at the thought and broke the news to my Mum that I was having a chemical pregnancy. I did a post here too. Next day, 8dp it was darker again. I tested with fmu every morning so I’m not sure why one frer was lighter than the others 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wishing you lots of luck xx

in reply to Tugsgirl

Thankyou for messaging, I have just gone on to your post and read all of the messages. It has made me feel more calm knowing that you had the same experience and it resulted in a beautiful girl. Interesting to see that Jess lines were stronger too in the afternoon. The 2ww is torturous but I'm not going to do anymore tests now, have changed my blood test to tomorrow morning and clinic said to wait for results before changing any meds xx

Aghhh... this is such a stressful time. I’ve got everything crossed 🤞 for you that this is your time 💕 xx

in reply to Lou7744

Thankyou,I'm just trying to rationalise it by thinking that it's not that much fainter than the first test and it is still a strong line 🙏 xx

Oh no I’m so sorry that you are going through this after the high of getting your bfp. I totally understand your worries based on past experiences but got everything crossed for you that this time is different. It’s great that you are getting your bloods done tomorrow. Hold on in there and keep sending that little bean positive vibes if you can! xxx

in reply to Picalilli99

Thankyou so much,I'm trying so hard to stay calm but have been snapping the OH's head off all day 😬 !! Xxx

Another possibility is if the 2 FRER tests are from different batches the levels of dye in them could differ. I’ve had a chemical myself and know the agony you must be going through right now as I did exactly the same on my last BFP. As the other ladies have said, bloods are the only true way of knowing whether or not your levels are increasing so good that you’re getting those done. My clinic didn’t do them so I had to rely on the digital HPTs and waiting for the number of weeks to increase. That was total torture and wouldn’t recommend when you have the option of bloods. Good luck!

Good luck with bloods today!! x

Congrats on your BFP, from experience I know it’s worrying being pregnant after a loss . 😬 I was a serial tester when I was pregnant with my daughter & my tests were darker in the afternoon my HCG must’ve been higher then! Good luck with your bloods really hope they can give you some reassurance xxx

Thankyou for your message, sadly it did end in another chemical pregnancy. I've taken a few months out as it got too much after 5 failed attempts, however booked for our next transfer on the 3rd April. How is everything with you? X

Oh my God, I'm so sorry! I hope you are feeling better now? What did the doctors say? Are you transferring frozen embies? Forgive me for asking, you don't have to reply. I am doing okay dear, my problems are a bit different. I have no symptoms at 20 weeks, never felt my baby move either. A bit scared but they say I might start feeling baby's kicks soon.

in reply to PagingMom

Thankyou, I have my 6th transfer booked for the 3rd of April. Next time they are giving me additional progesterone because they said last time it was on the low side.

How are you doing? Have you had your 20 week scan?

PagingMom profile image
PagingMom in reply to

Yes three weeks ago. Baby had legs crossed so they couldn't tell gender. Sleeping too. Would you believe I have no symptoms at all?? Felt slight movements just this week and that's about it.

Good luck Clairenix! I remember I never tested with a pos as my clinic suggested to rely just on the blood tests. Only when they confirmed pregnancy (after the second blood draw) I decided to test with a Frer just for the pleasure of seeing a line and it came back very very faint and got superanxious again..!

Since that day in August though I am now 27 weeks pregnant.

I’m sending you tons of baby dust🧚‍♀️ Keep us posted!

in reply to gattonero

Hi gattonero, thankyou for your message but sadly it did result in a chemical, the post is quite old now. I have my 6th transfer booked in for 3rd April so hopefully it will be our turn.

Hope your pregnancy is going smoothly
