So we have just had our 4th round of IVF, this was our 2nd FET after having 2 previous fresh cycles. We have never had a positive test result, I tested early, just 1 week after our frozen blastocyst was transferred and I got a positive - was absolutely over the moon, tested for a few days after and continued to get positives. Had early last scan booked in. Then bang, I tested just over a week after my first positive result and it had changed to a negative! 😭😭

Has anyone else had this happen to them? Really struggling to deal with the roller coaster ride that is infertility!

I’m so sorry to hear this. Have u done the genetics tests on the embryos to see if they have the correct number of chromosomes? We are away to start round 5 so I totally know where you are coming from xxx it’s such a tough journey xxx

We haven’t had the genetic tests, never been offered them. Is that something we can ask for? We have always had high grade blastocysts transferred but never seem to have any luck. Good luck with round 5! Stay strong! X x

It’s called a pgs it checks the embryo to see if it has the right number of chromosomes, we had 4 embryos 3 good graded, 1 very low grade. The 3 good graded ones 5 aa and ab were all abnormal (missing chromosomes) The low grade one was normal but not good quality. We were recommended not to transfer the 3 top grade ones xxx

Hi Vickie55, I'm so sorry that this has happened to you I know how devastating it can be. I'm currently on 2ww, this is my 5th transfer,sadly a similar thing happened to me on our last transfer, I was testing positive and then went for a viability scan at 7 weeks and there was nothing there,it was a chemical pregnancy. Our first transfer ended in a MMC and I have had my full bloods checked and it highlighted that I've got immune issues. This journey is so tough and I have been really anxious this round and at times felt like I don't know how much longer I can keep going.

Have your clinic suggested different treatment plans?

I can totally relate to this! It is such a long a difficult journey, my mental health has taken a battering, we had thought about giving up after this cycle because I didn’t know how much more I can take. The glimmer of hope with the positive (all be it for such a short time) has made us re-think and keep going! We’re having to go privately now so are hoping the clinic might offer us more testing etc now that we will be paying for it!

I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you! I was once told that from the moment you walk out of the clinic after the transfer you have to believe you are pregnant, positive thinking (I know how hard this is). Just make sure you look after yourself and do what you need to do for you! Hope to hear positive news! X x x

God that’s so hard! I’m so sorry. Are they giving you any reasons for why it’s not working? I know you can test the embryos for abnormalities. I had 2 rounds both cancelled halfway because I didn’t get any follicles growing big enough and I really don’t know how you cope with more than 2 rounds. I was at the end of my tether. You’re so strong and brave. Sending loads of love x

Just keep getting told it’s just one of those things! It wasn’t meant to be! We’re having to start going privately now so I wonder whether we will get more options and further testing now we will be paying for it?

Hiya, my situation is sort of similar. Has numerous rounds of clomid, all BFN’s. Fresh transfer BFN, 1st frozen transfer BFN (both high grade embryos) 2nd FET I got a positive 1 week after transfer and again the next day and again the next day but it had faded slightly. The day after that it was totally negative. Was heartbroken after never seeing a positive in my life to get one then have a chemical. I know how you are feeling. It was a couple of weeks ago now and I’m still really struggling to get my head round it. Only thing that’s keeping me going is the fact I got a positive so it implanted, it’s possible at least!

What is your underlying issue? Mine is PCOS so I wasn’t ovulating hence the need for IVF. I’m concerned that my embryos are abnormal now, I think someone else has mentioned this on these comments. I am NHS and was never offered testing but I will be asking if I can have my remaining embryos tested now. I think when you go private you will be offered much more tests and I’m sure you will get it figured out. I’m still NHS so not sure what to do from here.

I’m really really struggling with this journey as well. Was also tempted to give up but the brief positive gave me some hope at least xxx

Sounds very similar route, I’ve got PCOS and Endometriosis, I had a laparoscopy for the Endometriosis followed by rounds of Clomid, 2 fresh cycles and 2 frozen cycles so far! We’re just waiting on appointment to see consultant privately to get 5th round going! I just keep getting told that it’s one of those things - they never seem to offer any real reasons for the failed cycles. Embryologist have always said they are really good graded blastocysts but they never succeed. This roller coaster has been my life for 10 years now. I am holding onto the fact that it was positive this time - like you, it did implant! X x

From my research it seems the two main reasons (not saying there aren’t other reasons though) for it then becoming a chemical are chromosomal abnormalities or incorrect levels of progesterone. I’m praying that mine is just incorrect levels as this can be corrected fairly easily. BUT I’ve been reading a lot about women with PCOS having poor quality eggs and therefore abnormal embryos so now I’m really worried that’s what’s happening to me.

I agree to an extent it’s a game of chance and it may be just down to luck sometime but there comes a point when after transferring seemingly great quality embryos with no success you have to start looking at possible reasons!!

Yes I’ve been on this stupid ride for 7 years and I’m just about at breaking point with it all. Hoping for a positive plan of action after my follow up tomorrow! I hope for you going private means you have more options unlike the one size fits all approach of the NHS. I have found that the NHS are limited as to what they can offer and what they will investigate so I would like to this going privately will make all the difference for you. Good luck!! X

So sorry you’re going through this Vickie. Did you see my recent post about the importance of getting progesterone tested? That’s what I believe made the difference for me after 3 fresh rounds and a total of 8 embryos transferred xx

I haven’t seen your post but the clinic did a blood test to test progesterone levels before transfer, they were high and said I didn’t need additional injection. X x
