Hey,
Well, you go down in your sexy blue robes (check yours isn't see-through, mine partly was and I know they've seen it all already but walking around with your bare bum on show is a little bit extra), and you lay down like you would for a normal scan. They use something similar to what you'd have for a smear to 'open you up a bit' (no polite way of putting it!), then have a little clean up down there with cotton buds. It's not uncomfortable, mildly maybe but nothing to be worried about, then they put the catheter up and thread this tube through. Again, a bit uncomfortable but nothing bad. The propofol works immediately. I don't even remember feeling sleepy. Just woke up and it was done. Mind discomfort in ovary area but again, it's not painful. Then you have a drink and a 30/40 minute sit down on your own while they monitor you. Then a consultation with the doctor/embryologist... and then you go home!
The worst bit is when you wake up because, if your nurse is anything like mine, they tell you the results when you're still down there... And if it's not the news you were expecting/ wanted, the 30 minute wait can be quite distressing. Maybe tell them not to tell you anything until you go up and your partner is there with you? I got bad news and that wait to see him was torture! I was sat crying in my own for what seemed like forever. Hope that's helpful and that it goes well and you get good news
Hello! Thank you for your reply! I don't think my clinic offer any sedation but thank you soo much for the information. Can I just ask though, what results do they give you when you wake up? Yes my partner is coming with me thankfully! Thanks again 😊 x
Oh no, that's so funny! I literally started talking about the egg collection halfway through! I think I was so traumatised by the egg collection, I had flashbacks!!
Ahh yeah, it was accurate right up until the sedation part- there is no sedation. They put the catheter up and then you watch them put the embryo up the tube thing. I didn't watch as it was just a grey screen--looked a bit like a cave, they expected me to be mesmerised but I just wanted the damn tubes out. You lie down for 10 minutes after then you leave. No sedation. It is a little uncomfortable but pretty quick and you're out and about within the hour.
😂😂 I feel your pain with the egg collection, my experience was also traumatic! Also made me laugh with they expected me to be mesmerised... the nurse who was scanning me was stood in the way of the monitor so I couldn't see but my partner was watching. They told me to get up straight away and go for a wee.. I know it's not possible but I was nervous that I was going to wee it out haha xx
Oo good luck! no experience of that yet but just wanted to say hope it goes well x x
Transfer is super quick! You go in, get changed into a theatre gown then get taken to theatre, they check your identity about 5 times, sign a form then it’s just like a smear, they insert a little catheter, shout to the embryologist that they are ready then the embryologist brings a little catheter with the embryo in, they pop it in, check the tube is empty under the microscope and then your done! We are usually in and out in half an hour! That’s our experience anyway! Hope all goes well for you xx
Oh and they want you to have a comfortably full bladder x
Thank you! I didnt sleep much don't think it is just the nerves though with this heat! But reading your comments put my mind at ease a bit... I thinking today is the easy part, it's the next 2 weeks that are going to be harder haha. Thanks again! X
Wow, that's taken ages, you must be over the moon it's finally here!! You'll need a full bladder at the time of the transfer so plan your drinks quite carefully so you're not sitting bursting in the waiting room. Good luck xxx
So normally it’s go there, check and sign any outstanding forms. Change into delightful gowns lol. You and OH. Full bladder as full as you can, I needed to have a rigid catheter as I have a curved cervix and I didn’t have enough water in my belly. We don’t get put under at our clinic, you sit in stirrups and then a speculum (same as smear) to open you up, cleaned any mucus, and then lots of ID check, and the embryo transfer! Just uncomfortable really but not too sore. Eeeek good luck! Take socks to keep your feet warm (old wives tale!) and relax. X x x
The cleaning of the mucus sounds delightful 😂 but I did think they could do something like that because they have told me to continue with my pessaries last night and this morning. Thank you for replying and I'm not sure my feet will need to be any warmer in this awful heat 😓 but it is something I will keep in mind! Thanks again!! 😊 c
My transfer is 2morrow too at 11am (I had 3 before).
Girls explain all ...but one advice hun which I being told on my sec cycle...by one of the nurse in clinic...don’t wear any perfume or your hubby...
Good luck for 2morrow and welcome in 2ww buddies xx
Oh wow no way! Wishing you lots of luck, I really hope everything goes well for you! I know you have been through this 3 times before however, if you want a chat during the 2 ww then just send me a message! Also thanks for your advice! 😊 xx
Thank u hun xx
My little one come to us bed last night so 3 of us sleeping 2gother ...I think we need super super king size bed because she take all space 😂🥰
Need to get her ready for nursery and just after 9am we will be on a way to clinic ...the journey is around 1h 25min ...
I wish u lots of luck to hun for 2day and yes will be great to have someone to chat thank u xx
One thing they will ask you is if you would like to see the picture on the screen, my clinic also allowed us to take the picture. Seeing our blastocyst (the only one who survived out of 11 fertilised eggs) was amazing but a bit surreal. The transfer is so quick and after is done .. it's like being half pregnant. I have found the whole experience quite overwhelming, more so than the egg retrieval. I think it's one of the weirdest things a woman can experience, in a good way😀👍good luck hun!!
Wishing you lots of luck! 🍀🍀🍀 I had my first transfer last week. It’s a wonderful and surreal experience!
My main advice would be to start sipping water about an hour before but don’t drink too much or too quickly or you will be busting to pee! I drank a litre of water and they said my bladder was very full and I was good to go but from what they were saying I could have drunk less than that and it would have been fine. If you haven’t drunk enough, they just ask you to drink a bit more before they do the transfer. It was a little uncomfortable as the sonographer pushes down on your bladder but it’s over super quickly. xxx
Hello! Thanks for replying, wishing you lots of luck... when is your test date? Thank you, I am always rubbish and timing when and how much to drink and I am also rubbish at holding my bladder so I'll start drinking around 10:40 and hopefully it will be full enough. Thanks again! xx
Hi Jade. How did you get on yesterday? Hope it went well. ☺️🤞🍍My test date is next Friday 2 August. I think I’m going to wait till my OTD but it is so tempting to test early! xx
It went well, thank for asking... felt a bit surreal to be honest and we was both actually really emotional! I couldn't see the screen as the nurse was stood in the way, so I was looking at my partner and he said it looked like a little shooting star going in. That nearly tipped me over the edge 😢😂. I have had a bit of spotting but they said that would be normal from the neck of the womb. It will seem like forever but I've also promised my partner I will wait until the OTD to. 🤞🤞 for you and sending you lots of positive vibes!
Hope everything went well. I do mine next week. Positive vibes and everything good goes to you!
