When to have a FET after failed fresh transfer.

Hi, after some advice if possible.

My Fresh embryo transfer ended in a bfn but luckily I have two frozen :-) . I havnt had a natural bleed since. I went to the clinic today, being on day 33 (longest cycle I've ever has is 33 days) and they said I can start oestrogen tablets on day 1 of this cycle or next. Ive heard that u should wait until u have had at least one natural bleed after a failed cycle to get your menstrual cycle back to normal before started FET.

I'm due for 2 weeks off work next week which would give me 2 weeks of no stress at work of I started tablet when I next bleed. If I wait for the next cycle I don't have anyholidays at work and it's really quite stressful there for the foreseeable 3 to 4 months ahead.

Really don't know whether to just start when my next period arrives or wait until after I've had one natural cycle.

I found 2 journals online which contradict each other in terms of success rates after immediate fet or delaying fet until cycle back to normal.

Completely confused.

Any help would be much appreciated. Xx

I wasn't in exactly the same boat - freeze all cycle because of mild OHSS, but Dr told me I could start the FET meds right after the first bleed following EC. I ended up putting it off another month as we had a trip planned right around the time I would have been doing the transfer.

I'm not in the UK, I live in Brazil, so it was all private, and I trust my Dr a lot. He seems very up to date and on the ball with everything so if it hadn't been for the trip I would have been happy to go straight into the FET preparation - although, as I mentioned, it wasn't exactly the same situation you are in. Best of luck with your transfer whenever you decide to go ahead with it xxx

Hey, I read something regarding this the other day where a lady hadn’t had a period since her transfer but it wasn’t an issue and they went ahead with the FET anyway so hopefully as long as they can help with your lining should you need it, this will be the case for you also but you never know, your period may well come anyway! Try not to stress as that will delay it - I know as I’m waiting on mine 🤣

Good luck ☺️ Xxx

Thanku so much. I have the oestrogen tablets ready, so literally starting for FET is in my hands and my period. Let's hope these periods come sooner rather than later. Are you planning a FET soon? If so best of luck xxx

I hope it all sorts itself out! I’m doing a FET later this year. At the moment I’m waiting for my 2nd period after egg collection to arrive - been 39 days now 🤦🏻‍♀️ Xxx

Oh wow. I didn't realise how much IVF can mess with your cycle. Bless you. Hope it is a light one. Keeping fingers and toes crossed that everything works out for you. Xxx

Hi Sunshine, my clinic advised the exact same thing for me after my failed fresh cycle. Unfortunately due to other medical reasons I wasnt able to go ahead with my FET straight away so ended up having one natural bleed inbetween in the end. If it hadnt been for my medical issue I would have gone ahead the month earlier. I didnt look into it though, just went with what my clinic advised. They have been great so I completely trust what they said and would have been happy to go ahead. Wishing you all the best with whatever you decide to do x

Hi sunshine my 3rd fresh cycle I had this feb and it was longer then my last two before.

I had cyst which they drain so I could move on with injections.

I had grade A+ put back in but didn’t work . The only good outcome was that we have now 4 frostie.

One from my second cycle and 3 from the last one.

I’m doing natural frozen cycle now ...but after my failed fresh I took time for my body to recover and get of my system all the drugs.

My first bleed was for 11 days very heavy.... and I wait for another 3 periods to have.

U don’t need to wait for so long but they usually recommend to have at least 2 bleeding.

Is u who know your body better then anybody else and u will know when u ready . Xx

I started my FET the month after my failed fresh (after bleed) and got my BFP... Now my 2 year old! Best thing I ever did!! Now 30 weeks pregnant with no 2 (naturally!) My clinic said something about your body has recovered from the egg collection so best to go straight ahead with a FET... Phycologically it was right for me too as it was the only thing that kept me going... Xx

I had exactly this happen. MC of fresh cycle in November, had a bleed 2 weeks later and started FET on start of next bleed which was a total of 6 weeks. I can honestly say I was happy that I waited for the second bleed as the first bleed felt like it was wasn’t a real bleed and that my body and hormones were all over the place! I would wait personally, I just felt like my body was more ready with my hormones especially to receive the new embryo, and I’m now 29 weeks! Good luck with your decision xx

Hm am unsure but had a meeting with my clinic yesterday who asked if my cycles had been regular before we started so maybe important to have one cycle first to let body get back into a bit of a cycle. Am by no means an expert though so hope ur clinic can advise. Hope it comes soon. Best wishes hun. Xx

Hello Sunshine!

Good question)) Personally me, I had my FET in 3 months after ET. I wanted to have my body absolutely healthy and strong for the next cycle. Somebody has it in 2 months and somebody in 4, every case is particular. If you feel that you and your body is ready for transfer in two months - do it, if not- wait a little bit more.
