I’m really conscious when I read people’s posts that my partner and I are incredibly lucky to receive 3 NHS funded cycles.

I imagine equality in funding is a way off yet but this article sounds hopeful...

It is incredibly unfair that some people get 1 round or even zero. Hopefully soon everyone gets the same amount as it shouldn’t matter where you live.

We are in Cambridgeshire and get nothing funded 😞

We’ve got an appointment at a private clinic next Friday and they have a price list and various packages - for instance unlimited cycles for over £16k excluding drugs!

We have some savings and would need to get a credit card etc for the rest... So are lucky that it is possible for us, but there will be others for who it’s out of the question.

I find it annoying we have to pay but I guess there’s no better thing to spend the money on, and the care when paying that sort of cash is supposed to be lovely xx

It’s such a postcode lottery. It’s completely wrong. Why do you not qualify for funding in Cambridgeshire? xxx

Oh my god! Just read the article and saw that Cambridgeshire offer no funding at all. I can’t believe that 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

It’s not available in the County or surrounding areas. Such a shame that it’s not even one go! Xx

That’s horrendous. I’ve always thought that funding was a given as long as you met the criteria eg weight/no children/non smoker etc etc. I had absolutely no idea and fighting the urge to not swear! Lol. I’m so sorry 😢. xx

I wondered if there was an age cut-off (we’re slightly older at 36 and 41), we’ve got no previous kids etc, healthy and all that. But nothing. We are lucky that we have some savings and can get credit (however annoying!) but there will be others for who it’s not an option and that’s really sad and unfair that this guys are being deprived of the chance.

I don’t know why they can’t average it out so everyone gets one or two goes or something. Xx

I can’t believe there are still areas with no funding! We only had 1 funded round which is better than none obviously. The inconsistency is definitely unfair as surely we all make same contributions to nhs. Sadly our nhs round was unsuccessful. We have savings for our next round but it’s likely to be our last chance as we both agreed prior to starting that we wouldn’t get ourselves in debt and risk losing our home. So fingers crossed our next round results in our long awaited BFP. It’s awful the financial strain has to be there on top of the very difficult emotional and psychological strains to. X

You’re right about the equal contributions to the NHS - It’s so unfair in the current situation. And then there are added differences in funding for women who are single or in same sex relationships.

The postcode lottery infuriates me! Thank you for sharing this link, I really hope that equity in funding does improve soon! They also need to improve their access criteria for NHS treatment too!

I live in an area that did not fund any ivf cycles for the last 2 years - I had to pay for private treatment and just as I started my treatment they reinstated their NHS funding for 1 cycle. I am now not eligible for that funding because I have had a private cycle - its completely unfair! I am lucky enough that I can pay for private treatment, and I am really happy with my private clinic but for lots of others this may not be an option x

I live in Wiltshire and our chosen hospital offered us 3 attempts at ivf on NHS one fresh and two frozen attempts. Sadly I only made it to the fresh attempt as embies didn't make blastocyst stage.

I had to have a BMI in less than 30 be smoke free for a year and be over the age if 30 to qualify. Sadly our attempt ended in a chemical pregnancy. We are now mid way through a 2nd attempt that our family have kindly donated money to our savings pot.

I believe it's wrong to have a postcode lottery and the NHS should offer at least one attempt to anyone who us struggling to have a family. X
