Ibuprofen

Hi ladies, just wanted to share some info I received from my consultant re ibuprofen. He is a fertility specialist both NHS and private.

In essence if you are trying for a baby don’t even take one ibuprofen tablet. It has a highly detrimental impact on ovulation.

Having researched it quite a bit (I am no doctor - my consultant gave me places to look) it also seems men’s fertility can also drop if taking ibuprofen too.

I knew not to take it when pregnant, but I didn’t realise quite how damaging it was for just taking one of two during ovulation time.

Just wanted to share the info as many of my friends also didn’t realise so perhaps more people do not.

I know anyone on IVF is likely to be staying away from it, I did too when I did my cycles,

Outwith IVF, i still hold out hope for falling pregnant naturally, however I get back pain and sore hip so have been taking some, not realising how bad it is for ovulation. Have now stopped taking it altogether.

Hi Telford. Thank you for sharing this. I have been advising against the use of any anti inflammatories while trying to get pregnant and during pregnancy. Obviously ibuprofen is the commonest known of this group of drugs, but beware of others too. Just down to good old paracetamol regularly for any pain or fever, unless other medication is prescribed.
