About to start 2nd Fresh ICSI Cycle, really nervous second time round

Hi all, this is my first post but I have found comfort and hope reading a lot of the stories on here.

We had our first fresh ICSI cycle last August but and had 13 eggs retrieved, all mature and 9 out of the 13 fertilised. Unfortunately they said I was at risk of OHSS from the stimming so they had to do a 'freeze all' and our fresh cycle didn't get to transfer. Luckily all 9 were good enough quality to freeze and they froze on day 2 (that's what my clinic do with freeze all they freeze good quality ones on day 2)

In November I went for my first FET and had x 2 day 2 4 cell grade 1&2 embryos transferred, which sadly ended in BFN, we were devastated but knew we still had 7 frozen.

I gave my body a few months to recover and grieve as I also lost my brother suddenly during this time which was just awful. I went back for our second FET in March and had x 2 embryos transferred again, this time a 5 cell grade 2 and 2 cell grade 1, again ended in BFN. I think I expected it with this one I just didn't have a good feeling about it.

We still have 5 embryos frozen from that 1st cycle but I'm scared to have another FET At the moment as I feel the best embryos from that cycle have already been put back.

We're going back for our second Fresh ICSI cycle in July so I'm just preparing for the delightful stimming injections again! We're trying to be positive I just guess I'm apprehensive after what happened with our first cycle going to freeze all, I hope this fresh cycle gets to fresh transfer and hopefully they can transfer an embryo past day 2, which is more developed and they know which are the best ones.

Good luck to all you ladies, it's a long tough and often lonely journey so it feels good to be able to hear your stories too.

Sara x

Forgot to say I'm 33 and myself and my partner have been TTC approx 3 years. We found out it's male factor my Partner has quite a low sperm count due to an operation as a child. However that is the only issue they could find. That is why ICSI was suggested as the best option for us. I just hope we get our dream soon xxx

Hello

I'm sorry about the hard time you've been having that sounds really tough!

Did the clinic say why they freeze day 2 embryos, I've never heard of that? Would they let you wait and see if the embryo will get to a blastocyst? All the info I've read and the ladies on here have said that gives you the best chance of a successful pregnancy.

We start our first round of IVF in July too! My clinic do ICSI on everyone but they might do a mix IVF/ICSI if they get lots of eggs. I'm nervous/excited how are you feeling??

Best of luck!!

xx

Hello thank you for your reply x We're currently NHS funded for these first two cycles with our local trust. They only freeze on day 2 when it is 'freeze all' so when a cycle doesn't get to transfer. I don't know why they do this, I guess to get as many to freeze but I would rather see which ones go on to develop further. That's why I'm hoping this next fresh cycle gets to fresh transfer (i.e. My new protocol stops any risk of over stimulating!) so they can take the embryos to at least day 3 to see the best ones, and hopefully get some to freeze again at this stage fingers crossed.

Good luck with your cycle too! :) I'm

Nervous but also excited too for another chance, hope we all get our dream soon! Thank you xx

Sorry to hear that you're feeling apprehensive but I think its totally normal given what you're been through already. For me once you get further into this you realise more how much can go wrong and what we have to put ourselves through to just have that chance of pregnancy. Just take things a step at a time. It a shame that your clinic dont take your embryos a bit further than day 2 as it may have helped eliminate the weaker ones which is the thoughts behind a 5 day transfer or even a 3 day transfer. Hopefull this time they have a plan in place so you dont over stimulate like last time. Wishing you all the best.xx

Hello Thank you for your reply x

well they will take the embryos further with this next cycle (day 3 at least) if I don't over stimulate and I get to fresh transfer this time, fingers crossed! They have adapted my protocol slightly to last time I have noticed. It's so technical this IVF business isn't it!

Thank you for your well wishes, it's nice to feel not so alone in this I really have the last couple of years.

Wishing you all the best too xx

Glad to hear they have adjust things to try to avoid the same happening. Unfortunately it's not an exact science but the clinics usually learn from the first cycle. Yes, this is a great place to be! Full of supportive ladies which just makes this all a little more tolerable!xx
