Trying for a baby

Hi all,

I'm just going to put it out there, does anybody know of any help i.e medication or where to start in trying for a baby doctors have told me time and time again that I don't qualify for IVF as my partner has children from a previous relationship, however I have endo and a blocked tube I have had 1 miscarriage and 1 ectopic any help or advice would be helpful, all in all I have been trying for 6-7 years with no joy 😪😔

I think based on what you’ve said ivf is probably the easiest way to get pregnant - not that ivf is easy by all means! Xx

Hi I think IVF may be a consideration for you , however you could ask your GP to start you in clomid for a while and time your ovulation with ov sticks you can get from boots, and just get trying, good luck

Generally gps aren’t allowed to prescribe clomid a fertility specialist has to. Xxx

I agree, I’ve not been on it but they have to be very careful on the dosage (too high risk for gp’s) because it can cause ovarian cancer - although there have been times I wished it was more simple x

It’s very hard to get pregnant naturally with a blocked tube - the water that builds up displaces the embryo so it doesn’t implant.

You need a laparoscopy to remove the blockage or remove the entire tube. You can get this on the NHS.

Once the blockage or tube is removed you can still get pregnant naturally with one healthy tube.

You need to push for that operation and then you can try and get pregnant naturally x

I am sorry to hear of your struggles & I know how difficult it is when the nhs won’t fund ivf for you it adds another pressure on you ☹️ sorry for your loss too.

I have endometriosis & once mine was properly treated by an endometriosis specialist ( my third laparoscopy) I have had a successful pregnancy ( I’m 35 weeks) after a 7 year struggle & early miscarriage. I fell naturally twice once it was treated.

You should be able to have the necessary surgery on the NHS.

As for the ivf you can try appealing unfortunately more CCGs have this unfair criteria. You could get support from your GP & local MP to support your appeal.

Failing that have you considered ivf aboard? It is considerably cheaper ( a third of the price here🤨) Lots of ladies here had treatment aboard .& could advise you on it.

Could friends & family help you both out financially towards a cycle of ivf? Some do fund raising to help fund their ivf.

Egg sharing ivf is another way around funding ivf; you donate half your eggs to another lady going through ivf & you get free/reduces ivf costs. This is an option if you are under 35 & meet set criteria. Many do free open evenings. It is a lot to consider.ie how you might feel if your cycle works & yours doesn’t ( not saying it wouldn’t)

I would definitely get the endo & tube sorted before going through ivf. Women can fall with one tube working my late aunty had 2 children naturally with one tube 🙂

I've had 4 laps with a specialist in endo with no avail I think I may have to give up on the idea saving isn't an option for me it's impossible, do you know if gps can refer you to a fertility specialist for help as the gynecologists round where I love are not helpful at all.

They won't take my tube or unblock it they just said they couldn't take is as I was too young.
