Pregnant with the help of new ICSI method

My greetings dear forumers! I am a new member here and wanted to share with you my hard but successful journey.

First of all, thanks a lot for letting me be here! That's a great chance for me to communicate with all of you, learn something and help others in their life-important journeys.

My name is Ava and I am 41. I have a great son and we had been ttc for already 7 yrs.

During these awful years, I went through a lot and finally got a positive result!!!

I had 3 miscarriages and a long-way treatment. My AMH is very low that it was very hard to conceive. I went through 2 failed IVF+OE and 1 bfp but miscarried on the 9th week. It was really hard for us. We didn't want to stop and kept searching for more opportunities. Not so long time ago, I found some information about the experimental mitochondria donation method which gives more chances to get pregnant. I emailed to the clinic and agreed to try it. You know, though it was something new, I wasn't afraid of a negative result as there was nothing to lose. The first ICSI+OE+Mitochondria attempt was negative but after the second one I got BFP and now I am on the 17th week of pregnancy. I am really thankful to God, to my clinic and my DH for support, and, of course, to myself for not giving up!

I hope, all of you will finally find your happiness and baby-miracles!!!

Don't be afraid to try something new as it really may help!

Wish you the best and good luck!

Hello Ava. Welcome to the group! Thanks for sharing your story. To my mind, it can really help others in their future trips. I know a little bit about this treatment but couldn't find anybody who had already gone through it.

First of all, my congratulations to you and your future LO. And secondly, I consider you a strong person for not to stop and go to your dream. I can only imagine how much efforts you had to make to go through all the problems and treatments! I admire you! I wish you happiness and joy!

Firstly congrats on your pregnancy.

I did some research on this (I'm over 40 and using DE) and I thought there was no evidence it helps (where the eggs are from someone like me, over 35) using 'young' Mitochondria donation. Even all the top private IVF clinics in Harley Street don't offer it, it seems its only for women with bad mitochondria who otherwise would have a normal pregnancy, at least in the UK. The only place that seems to do it is some place in Ukraine , so that was me out for this. Having a so called , '3 person baby' I'm sure in the future will be a great way for women

Thanks, dear! Frankly speaking, I'm not sure what exactly helped, but anyway, I am very grateful for all the efforts and support! I hope that this kind of donation will really help others to achieve pregnancy. I've done this in Ukraine and know that it is conducted in the only one clinic.

Hello, Ava! Your story is truly fascinating! Congratulations to you! To be honest, I have been looking for additional information about the mitochondrial donation and I am so glad I have found someone who underwent it! Could you please share your experience? I know that this method is a recent one and at the moment there are not so many reviews/ comments about it online. Do you mind sharing the name of the clinic that does this donation?

AvaEva999 profile image

Hi Lolita! Thanks for the answer. I didn't know about this method until I came to the clinic. I'd been considering a simple donation package but after checking my medical documents and tests results I was suggested this new method of treatment with my own eggs. I dreamed about the baby of my own and due to my low amh level and age, I wasn't expected to have one more chance to achieve this. I was on the seventh sky and didn't even think it over. I agreed at once and can surely say that it was the best decision in my life!

I can imagine what you went through! The program does sound very promising that's why I am trying to figure everything out before going with it. It looks like mitochondrial donation is solely performed in Poland and Ukraine, did you do it in one of these countries (if you don't mind of course)?

AvaEva999 profile image
AvaEva999

Yeah, you are right. I went to Ukraine for this procedure because there is a slight difference between these two countries. Such a method is also used in Britain but Mitochondrial replacement without DNA genes is conducted only in Ukraine. In all other countries, they retrieve nucleus with mitochondria thus there is a light connection to a donor.

That's incredible, what can I say.. Do you mind sharing the name of the clinic?

Ok, thanx! I've heard a lot of things about this clinic. What about you, how was your experience with them?

AvaEva999 profile image
AvaEva999 in reply to LolitaBueno

I am pretty happy with them. The attitude was great, support too. They provide good accommodation, transportation. I adore their cuisine)), all the food was fresh and tasty. Of course, there were some gaps with communication and sometimes was frustrating but in general, it isn't so substantial. All the immediate questions concerning health you can fix over the 24/7 emergency phone. There were also some things that they didn't tell but it was probably because they do not have the importance.

After I had returned home, I decided to bring here my children to show how gorgeous the city I was lucky to visit!

That's great, I am going to email them for more information about mitochondrial donation program. I read articles about mitochondria on their website. It's great that they have experience in this procedure and successful pregnancies like yours) Because, you know, how can it be with experimental programs...
