How much time off work did you have after embryo transfer?

Hi guys.

During my first transfer I took 1 week off work just to take things really easy, but to be honest I was glad to get back to work to occupy my mind. The transfer failed and I am awaiting my next transfer and wondered how long you took off? My consultant said I could go back the next day as my job isn't physical, although it can be quite emotional or demanding. Did you benefit from longer off work or was the distraction better and still have a positive outcome. My work place is very supportive and I can ask for lighter duties , take many breaks as well as receive full pay whilst I'm off sick.

I’m a teacher and my transfer happened to land in the middle of a half term holiday so I was off for four days after. I agree it was better to get back in to have something to occupy me though!xxx

I have had two so far and didn't take It off for any, just had normal life. The last one I went to Spain and was staying with my sister, and my three year old nephew was jumping on me just a couple of hours after the transfer! I would say just keep normal activity and try and be as happy and relaxed as possible. The doctors said just normal life. Good luck!

The first time I had ivf I booked the whole 2ww off but this time I just took a few days and was greatful for the distraction of work xx

Thank you. A had a friend book the 2ww off but I would just go crazy. She said I would blame myself if I went back and it didnt work but I think given the advice I'll go back after a day or 2. Best of luck x

That was exactly what I thought first time round but with experience I really didn’t think it was necessary hence why the second time round I just had a few days xx

Hi Frankie, first time I took the week off with iui, this time with fresh transfer I just had two days and then the weekend. Work kept my mind busy and for that I was grateful. Xx

I just took the day of the transfer off. My job isn’t physical , at a desk or in meetings. But I prefer to be busy while completing my 2ww. This is stressful enough want things to be as normal as possible and keep reminding myself that life goes on whatever the outcome.

I will be honest with each transfer I have had the 2 weeks off due to the nature of my job, they have all been BFN... sometimes I think to go to work on say light duties... but it can’t be guaranteed in my job!! It is tough and I try and plan things to do whilst off... but it is so individual and it so depends on your job and how supportive the employer is!

Both my successful cycles I took the whole 2ww off work. My job is a desk job but it wasn’t so much the physical side of things, it was the stress of it. Some days at work are easy and great and a laugh, other days are stressful and dealing with awkward people/colleagues so the best thing I did was take the time off as who knows what sort of day you’ll have 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have a 3 year old from my first cycle and now I am 37 weeks pregnant awaiting for the arrival of his baby brother or sister from my second cycle.

I am not saying by going to work it may not have worked (I’ll never know) but for me taking that time off seemed the right choice. Although the wait was hard at home and I questioned every symptom, I felt relaxed and rested which can only assumed helped me. Hope this helps xx

I went straight to work from the transfer as I own a Daycare. My job is very physical lifting kids all day! I never took any time off and I’m currently 13 weeks. Not sure if resting is necessary, but that’s just me!

3 days off I had, I had egg collection Friday and transfer Wednesday so was off from the Friday (EC) to the next Monday after. So about 10-11 days off altogether and as you say getting back to work was a real distraction in a good way. It’s harder to go back to work probably after the failed cycle but I haven’t had any extra time off. My work is super supportive and flexible too. X
