Finally - someone on TV talking about actually mentioning tx for miscarriages

We've seen so many interviewed about the emotional toll miscarriage can have but no one ever talks about the things that can help or what can cause them.

I know there's not always an answer but she didn't mention the pessaries until asked by the presenter - how many women can that kind of info help. And just goes to show how many women not going through ivf must have to suffer before getting the right treatment

So sad.... But maybe a tiny breakthrough

Heartbreaking sob. Bless her. Can totally relate to the ... ignore it, don't jinx anything, just tick the weeks off. I've only told 4 people I know, and last time it went wrong I told the world. If the progesterone cyclogest pessaries can save just one person from heartache. Awww, it affects a lot and not many of us get to go through 3 mc when on the ivf journey before they can think about why. x

Exactly

I wish they would actually give out more info when they talk about these things on the news or media.

So much we're not aware of- if it can just point someone in the right direction

Thank you for sharing this. I lost last 2 babies at 7 weeks also. Had I known this I would definitely have paid to have progesterone checked during last pregnancy. Hopefully sharing this helps others x

I'm so sorry to hear what you've been through

We lost ours at 6 weeks and whilst I was on progesterone injection I think something went wrong with one or two of the doses.

Sometimes the answer isn't as simple as progesterone but so often it really is(!)

Such an easy thing to test and treat

Hope things work out for you in the future

Baby dust to you xx

Hi there, I just watched the video and read everyone’s comments. Can you explain to me about the whole thing around progesterone levels? Is it really common for it to drop off suddenly and is it something you have to ask to be checked?

I’ve recently had my 2nd miscarriage (both at 10 wks) and am wondering what may have caused them. I also have a fibroid pushing against the lining of my uterus and thinking this may be the issue. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks x

Hi

Sorry i can't offer too much advice regarding the fibroid(which does seem as if it could be causing implementation issues)- have your clinic discussed any treatment plans?

Many women, particularly those with hormonal issues -(thyroid/pcos/diabetes or older ladies closer to menopause) often don't have regular cycles or produce enough progesterone

If you're undergoing IVF then even more so an issue as you are often overriding your natural cycle so needs to be artificially replaced.

Many of us need higher progesterone support either in dose or a change in delivery method (injections instead of pessaries) for better absorption

If you're prone to bleeding early in your pregnancies and a lot of spotting, irregular bleeding in normal menstruation then you are likely to have progesterone issues

This can easily be fixed and HFA show increased progesterone as being safe with no particular adverse side effects.

There's a school.of thought which thinks that if you don't have enough progesterone to begin with then the pregnancy wouldn't be viable anyway - or that the dose doesn't need to be altered depend on the individual - but sorry- even my basic research and experience calls BS on this.

UK clinics often don't test progesterone and admit to 'not knowing what levels they should be'- but seem adamant that their estimated dose is correct

If you search this forum you should find other posts on progesterone support

Good luck

Hi Saya85,

Thanks for replying. I appreciate it 😊

You mentioned that you’ve done some research on this topic around progesterone. Can you share what you’ve learnt so far from articles or research papers etc. that you’ve come across?

At the moment I’m just guessing what could be the cause as it just seems too much of a coincidence for me to miscarry both times at 10 weeks.

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated,

Yuen

So sorry she had to go through that, pleased she is talking about it, but she seemed like she really wasn't going to mention progesterone at all until she was questioned about it. Weird!

Exactly

I think she just wanted people to know she had gone through similar things and to just 'open up' about miscarriages

Which is great. But i got quite cross that she didn't even offer the simple advice/problem that caused hers. Surely the fact it took so many tries even for her with all her money/private healthcare should ring alarm bells for us all.

what we really need to know is to how to understand what could have gone wrong and treatments out there (especially progesterone which is so easy to fix!) Rather than just offer sympathies

Of course not every miscarriage will have a reason - but there should be a better understanding of what's happening then there currently is

Quite shocking we're still in this same conundrum

At my reoccurring mc appointment I asked about progesterone the fertility dr looked at me blankly and said there’s no proof it works so we don’t offer it 🤔 was it because my miscarriages don’t end early as they stick to 12w+ Maybe I didn’t absorb the info properly I feel more info is needed and more options to try.

I haven’t watch vid as I’m at work I’ll have a look later.

Hey

Yes, usually if 12wks+ its unlikely to be a progesterone issue as placenta then develops and baby is mostly independent /fully developed

But if you bleed beforehand then it could also be an added factor

Yes there is no conclusive evidence that progesterone definitely helps but no studies show its unsafe - so what's the harm in trying if it could be a factor.

Plus it also depends on who took part in study. If IVF then its definitely a factor

If other health issues it can definitely be a factor

I'm sorry you've been through so much and i know how hard it is when you're trying to figure out why.

Progesterone may not be your issue, i can't remember if we discussed thyroid tests? Making sure TSH is below 2.5

As baby fully relies on mother until 12 weeks and then starts to make its own.

Again this may not be your issue but worth ticking off known boxes.

Vitamin deficiencies also being very common

Really hope you get some answers or some good news soon xx

No thyroid problems pregnancies lasted for 12w no bleeding before with 2, but 2 were blighted and one got to 9w. They just said age.

Sorry to hear x

Yes unfortunately genetics/egg sperm quality can be an issue particularly later on.

Some ladies have had success with supplements to improve quality before TTC but sometimes there are no answers 😔

Have you been through ivf? There are more options in terms of determining /choosing egg and sperm quality to give you the best chance before implantation

Generally find the clinics will often be more clued up about new treatments than hospital gynaes.

Might be worth having a consultation with a good clinic just to see what they suggest x

Yeah I took dhea ubiquinol pqq all the egg health supplements I read about before my last pregnancy conceived in 3 mths after 2nd mc also took baby aspirin. My appointment was at the centre of life fertility clinic Newcastle they didn’t offer ivf or any other treatments because we can conceive fairly quickly. Just to add I have 2 children to prev marriage as well.

I feel I’ve no options other than to try again or stop.

Thanks for your reply x
