Success stories of women over 40

Hi all, this is my first post.

I have just had a failed FET yesterday after a failed fresh ET last September. We have one more frozen embryo left. All embryos are/were top grade 5 day blastocyst. The embryologist before our FET said on paper we were a golden couple we just haven’t had the pregnancy. Basically it’s failing at implantation.

I’m turning 40 before our next FET and it’s stressing me out. I would love to hear positive IVF stories from women over 40.

I’m trying very hard to stay positive. For the FET I had a horrendous virus for the whole tww which resulted in a perforated eardrum (still not over it). So I’m guessing that won’t have helped matters.

I’m looking at doing acupuncture next time round to help. Has anyone tried that?

It is more important how old you were when your embryos were created than your age at transfer so turning 40 shouldn’t have any negative impact on your frozen transfer. I turned 40 during my pregnancy with my frozen embryo (created when I was 39) and she is now here and perfect😍.

I had acupuncture for both a failed and a successful round so I wouldn’t say it is a miracle cure but I felt it was worth it and I enjoyed it. I had s healthcare cash back plan so I could claim back some of the cost.

Thanks Lizzie. That’s a really good point, I didn’t think of that, I was 39 when the embryos were created. Fingers crossed it works this next time or I’ll have to go through it all when I’m 40. My sister had a baby naturally at 41 so I keep thinking that our genetics are obviously fairly good.

Think I’ll give acupuncture a go. It’s not going to do any harm.

Hi, my eggs were taken at 41 and I only ended up with two good embryos. I took the decision to transfer only 1 and it failed, and then fell pregnant naturally whilst down regging for my second, and last ivf round. I’m 42 now and 30 weeks pregnant. Miracles do happen but I truly believe reflexology helped me massively in between the two rounds. Good luck.xx

Thank you. It’s so easy to get into a spiral of “this is never going to work” and it’s good to hear positive stories. Congratulations on your pregnancy and all the very best.

I’m 39 (not far off 40) and just done a fresh ET and have 1 in the freezer. I have Reiki, Reflexology and Acupuncture on a regular basis on the lead up to and during treatment. I get much deeper relaxation with Reflexology and Reiki, but I feel that Acupuncture does more medically (if that makes sense). All my therapists know what the other is working on for me, so compliments it. Plus, they give me much more support and guidance than the clinic . Wishing you lots of love xx

I’ve found an acupuncturist and had a reflexologist recommended to me but was more sceptical about that as there is less studies on it. Acupuncture seems to be recommended by lots of clinics because of the studies that have taken place. Maybe I’ll try both to be on the safe side.

Good luck with your journey.

I know what you mean about the reflexology. It feels so good though, that even if it just relaxes me so that I forget about the treatment for an hour then it’s done the job! Relaxation and positivity is good!xx

The biggest single thing you can do is to reduce stress somehow. It's not an easy answer and takes time to figure out how. But I only ever started to get bfp after taking time out of work, doing counselling and mindfulness and understanding how to de stress.

Acupuncture definitely helps me to de-stress and kinesiology. You need to find the thing that allows you to relax and make sure you anchor to that.

I had an issue with my eggs. But following de-stress and donor eggs, my 2nd donor egg round produced our first ever bfp, sadly didn't get to 8 weeks, and second bfp a few months later. I am now 42 and nearly 21 weeks pregnant. Good luck x

Huge congratulations on your pregnancy. When in the process do you think is the most vital time to de-stress? I am down regulating currently. Start stimms on wed and have been super stressed. I am having weekly acupuncture which helps a little. Xxx

As much as you can whenever you can xx

I did the mindful ivf app every day. Also I have a therapist who does hypnotherapy and that really helped with anxiety. We concentrated on focussing on the now not worrying about the what ifs “everything at this moment is ok”.

Thanks. I am doing a lot to destress in my life generally, but I think acupuncture will take it to the next level.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I’d just like to add to this post, that I am currently 7wks pregnant. My final frozen transfer was unsuccessful from this cycle but I went to a private clinic where the consultant immediately tested me to lupus anticoagulant which was detected. The fresh cycle I’ve just had included treatment for this blood condition and was successful. Keep going and keep hoping everyone.

I’m 41 and 16 weeks pregnant naturally after 2 failed ivfs. I didn’t even get any follicles growing in my cycles!!! I saw a recurrent miscarriage specialist bc I kept getting pregnant then miscarrying (even though ivf didn’t work) and found I had elevated nk cells and sticky blood. I was put on a drug protocol and next time I got pregnant, boom! It worked. It’s worth seeing a miscarriage specialist as you could have similar or other issues as to why your embryos are not implanting. Also did you get the embryos genetically tested? They might have chromosome abnormalities which is why they aren’t working. I honestly don’t find the ivf clinics as up to speed on the miscarriage (or implantation failure) stuff. I also do acupuncture and take Chinese herbs which I think helped massively. Hope that helps
