Here we go again!!!

Sorry but need an emotional rant!!!

So... on our first round egg transfer done in the morning then afternoon I came down with a chest infection and cough. Antibiotics taken..... BFN

Now second round..... been on buserelin and now stims and now waiting to see the doctor as I have a throat infection. Feel crap and in lots of pain. No doubt more antibiotics so no doubt this will effect the process from here on in. I may as well give up now!!

Is it the drugs making me ill? Or is it a sign saying ‘give up’.

It's not over till it's over, although I can understand you're feeling negative right now. Hang on in there!!

I wonder if it's just bad luck or if stims and stress are leaving you run down and prone to infections? Have you had the transfer already or is there any chance you could freeze and transfer in a month or two when you're back to 100%?

Is there any evidence that antibiotics effect it? Since they are safe to take whilst pregnant i didn't think they effected anything ivf wise.

Probably just a sign you are run down as this process takes alot out of you.

My 15 month old daughter got sent home from nursery with a temp Friday and has shared whatever bug she's got with everyone in the house. I'm just taking paracetomol to get me through but also using it as an excuse to take it easy, have duvet days and naps x

I am not sure. I read it online on another fertility site while I was waiting to see the doctor. They said that they have given me antibiotics that are safe during pregnancy (although I’m not pregnant) but that has put my mind at little bit.

Oh your poor daughter and poor family! Today is my duvet day and hoping to nap most of it. I hope you all feel better soon xx

Oh don’t think like that..... things fail and we put it down to whatever crappy thing is going on in our lives but that might not be “why” it happened.

You owe it to yourself to have some hope and happiness....

On my first cycle (which failed) it was Christmas and I had half a glass of wine (the clinic told me not to drink at all) within an hour of drinking the wine I started bleeding... I still blamed myself for it, but in hindsight it could have been for any reason. I know it’s not the same but it could be anything that did it. Just stay positive and remember this could be gone and cleared up before the egg is put back!!

Good luck and keep us informed.

Thank you Hun. I am sorry for what happened on your 1st cycle but you are right it wasn’t your fault. I suppose that I am just feeling really run down and sorry for myself. Also it just seems like dejavu! I am convinced that the drugs lower my immune system. I have my second scan tomorrow so will talk to the clinic about it.

Are you going again for another cycle? If so what stage are you xx

Hi Emma,

I know that feeling well... so on my first cycle I came on my period when it was due and that unfortunately was in the middle of my 2ww... I have a FET 10d ago and I was positive I was going to come on, I had the same cramps and I was checking my knickers ever bloody second! However I haven’t come on and I’m 5 days late and got a BFP!!!

The thing is, I spent (and still feel) like I’m going to come on my period and it’s all going to be over due to what happened last time but the reality is.. I’m pregnant and I have not been able to enjoy it as I’ve been telling myself it’s going to fail.

We need to hold out hope as it will destroy us if we don’t.

Oh that is fantastic news!! Congratulations! It’s hard to enjoy it when we have worked so hard for it and had to deal with heartache. But you should enjoy it, what do they say- happy mummy happy baby xxx

I’ve not even finished the 2ww yet so I’m still a little anxious. I don’t have any Fallopian tubes so it’s all very straightforward for me.

When do you have the transfer?! I’ve got everything crossed for you!! X

Oh don’t you? Has that always been the case? Sorry that is very personal you don’t have to go into detail. I am hoping they do collection on 25th. Last time they transferred on day 5. And the other 2 eggs didn’t progress so didn’t freeze so starting all over again. Although this time they have changed to long protocol and I am thinking maybe 3 day transfer would be better but that’s down to the experts isn’t it.

When is your test day? I have everything crossed for you too x

So long story short... one was damaged following surgery and the other I had a spontaneous ectopic.

I had a 5 days transfer last time but I feel for you.. having to go though it all again I think would get me down too!

I will test again Wednesday before I call the clinic! According to my calculations I’m 4+3.

I went to Bath Fertility Center which was amazing. Where are you at?!

Emmaxxx profile image

Oh dear I’m sorry to hear that.

Will you last till Wednesday or will you test early? It is so tempting isn’t it. I didn’t I held out but don’t know if I will this time???

I am at chelsfield Park in Kent. They are nice but sometimes I feel like I’m on a conveyer belt as I have already had a cycle with them I feel like they think they don’t need to take time to talk to me or that I don’t have any questions. But I do! When I go tomorrow for my second scan I am going to make sure that they understand that just because I have been here before I still want their time and effort just like last time. There is one nurse that I feel just couldn’t give a shit! Probably because I complained about her last time. Every is an effort for her and would rather not see her as it makes me angry and anxious when I see her lol x

I know what you mean about the time and attention but you should have a phone line you can call... book an appointment and write all your questions down... if you’re a paying customer or NHS it doesn’t matter as they are being paid either way and you deserve that time and effort.

I am a Paramedic and know what “some” health care professionals can be like (trust me, it’s not just the patients their rude to) but you can ask for a different person to talk to.

In relation to complaining about her, my theory is... if someone is like that then it’s a very high possibility that they have been like that to a number of people and the other nurses will know what they are like! The problem is they need to be professional and can’t tell you how much of a bit** she really is!

Unless you ask you don’t get!

Hey, I am sure it's not over yet. Just stay positve. I can understand how frustrating this might be for you. However, I am sure things will get better. Just stay strong and positive. Anti-biotics are not supposed to hinder the process. So I am hoping they won't affect anything. Good luck to you.

Thanks for sharing your post. I feel the same every time we have another set-back. I just keep telling myself these things are complicated and there’s still a lot of mystery to it all. So unless you’ve been told it categorically can’t happen, maybe it will. There are a lot of bugs around at the moment so if you’re a bit run down you’re bound to be more vulnerable to them. Keep looking after yourself and I hope your doubts pass and you can feel refreshed. X

Hi Emma I’ve heard of women who can only get a positive test when on antibiotics. You may have just been unlucky last time, or your chest infection was particularly bad maybe. I wish you the very best of luck. Try to be kind to yourself and wait and see what happens xx
