Wondering if any ladies can help. I recently had an open myomectomy to remove a uterine fibroid, believe this was causing implantation failure as I had 3 failed embryo transfers with good quality blasts etc... when I went for my hystoscopy before surgery they noticed uterine polyps not many just a few. The consultant didn’t seem that bother and didn’t even do a biopsy or anything, she was quite blaise. Im going for my treatment plan now Thursday for my next cycle which we are forking out £7000 I’m really worried that these polyps should be removed ?! I’ve googled them and scared myself ! Or should I just trust the professionals and if they wasn’t that bothered I shouldn’t worry either. Are they common ? I’m really stressed 😥

Hi, I had a polyp removed prior to my first icsi cycle. However I think it depends on their size and whereabouts they are. It was biopsed but was fine, i think its very rare for them to be anything more serious. One of my consultants told me sometimes he thinks it does more harm removing than leaving alone and they don't know how common these things are in ladies who have no trouble getting pregnant so it's hard to know how much of an impact they have. I have a fibroid that they aren't removing, they did check my lining was smooth after a period before I started meds for FET cycle, so maybe even if they could see ur lining was nice and smooth? xo

A few years ago I had suspected fibroid which consultant thought was likely a polyp! By the time the consultant operated whatever it was had disappeared! Apparently polyps can be absorbed by the body.

My mum had a few polyps in her colon ( I know it’s different to uterus) as bowel cancer runs in our family they wanted the polyps removed & tested. And she had to return where she had grown more! By having them removed made them grow more. Sometimes I wonder if they are better left alone. 🤔

I would definitely trust your specialist, I’m sure if they thought they would cause an issue with implantation they would’ve removed them. When is your follow up appointment? I would discuss your worries with the surgeon then.

Your clinic will check your lining & make sure it’s all nice & smooth for embryo 😘 if they have doubts they will discuss that with you.

I’m sure the fibroid was more of an issue.

Thank you so much both your responses you’ve made me feel a lot better, my fibroid was distorting my uterus that’s why they removed it, im just panicking there’s so many other things wrong I suffer with terrible health anxiety which doesn’t help! Thank you for the advice xxx

Hi ICSIBaby. Lots of polyps are just like tiny bumps and are of no significance. If you start lasering them, it can cause scarring, so I'm sure your specialist is giving you good advice, so trust him/her. You've got rid of the "nasty" one, so that's good. Ask whether you need to try Clexane (heparin) a blood thinner this time, to help prevent clots forming and ensure a good blood flow to your womb lining. Good luck with it all. Diane

Thank you Diane ! I had a real panic I’ve had lots of women telling me on other fertility forums that they had to have them removed and that the clinic won’t even begin ivf with them there ! But I do think my surgeon is reluctant now to play around with my uterus anymore, I forgot to mention the polyps to him on my post op appointment. But I’m sure if it was an issue he would’ve have said, my only concern was it was another consultant that found the polyps not him but surely they all have access to my notes so he would’ve noticed. This process makes me so paranoid xx

I’ve requested a scan at my new clinic I haven’t had once since the myomectomy so thought it was sensible to cross the t’s dot the i’s etc ! Plus itl put my mind at rest xxx thank you
